D17 received Gold and one other amounting to $15,000 total, plus a small one-time scholarship. I think the NMSF’s are also eligible for the National Merit Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 - $2,000 per year as well, correct? Not really sure how it all works but I know that the Gold is definitely conditional upon being named NMF.
@JBStillFlying Thank you for your reply. if a NMF does not receive any scholarship from other sponsors, the U of M
will award 1K to 2K more to the Gold receiver.
Ok so I haven’t received a decision yet, but under Received Materials it says correspondence. Do you know what that means or is from?
Thanks to all participating on this thread. Daughter has the following stats:
3.68 UW
ACT: 30 E 36 R29 S28 M28
6 APS
Minnesota Gold Seal for French Language (Bilingual student). Community Service Letter, and a few other ECs
She applied 10/31.
When do you think she’ll get a decision, and do you think she’ll be admitted for CLA?
@Sunnydaisies has she taken the standard college prep coursework that UMN recommends? If so then she’ll be admitted and hopefully won’t have to wait too long for it. Her stats are right where they need to be.
What would she like to major in?
She has taken all of the needed classes and would like to major in economics and global studies. She is taking French and Spanish, AP Calc and AP Econ this year. We are crossing our fingers!
@sunnydaisies hopefully you won’t have to keep them crossed too much longer. Good luck to her and keep us posted!
I am an athletic recruit to University of Minnesota who recently signed an NLI. (National letter of intent) The last step for me is to get acceptance to the school. I have Been told not to worry before but seeing all of these super high acts and gpa’s I am a little worried.
I am applying to aerospace engineering in CSE and my second choice is Physics in CLA.
Stats:
Act 29: English 28, Math 26, Reading 32, Science 29
GPA uw 3.1, w 3.4
The reason it’s so low is I had a really bad freshman year. I took challenging classes like ap comp sci. And honors bio and math my freshman year. I specified that on my application.
Throuought my highschool career I have taken AP computer science, AP physics 1, and this year am taking AP calculus BC and AP physics C.
In addition to the sport I signed for, (diving) I did VEX robotics club in highschool and have qualified to state, and national championships.
In diving I have been training for 8 years and have qualified for nationals 5 years in a row and won my zone championship last year. But i don’t think that matters for admission lol!
Can anyone give me an estimate on my chances to get in to if not my first choice, at least my second choice.
Thanks so much!
NLI’s are big hooks, although the degree of “hookness” might depend on the sport - not sure. You have an admirable athletic resume and the U would be lucky to get you!
For CSE: uw GPA is very low. ACT is a tad low and Math in particular is pretty low. Even with the hook it’s a gamble. But you might find that CLA is a better fit anyway as CSE is a huge time commitment in and of itself and may leave little time for training/rest.
For CLA: The ACT is fine and while the uw GPA is a bit low the hook will offset that to some degree. You will likely get into CLA w/o difficulty, especailly if your grades are going in the right direction.
Male or female? (may affect your chances for CSE).
Good luck to you!
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the response.
I am male. I kinda have all my eggs into university of Minnesota at this point scince signing kinda assures my commitment lol. Il keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best!!
Thanks again!
CSE might allow slightly lower stats from females in order to boost it’s numbers (no hard and fast rule there, just something I’ve casually observed). Your best best is CLA and, again, that might also be the best fit. The physics major is rigorous in either college as you take the same courses. Good luck to you!
Male
ACT: 32, but 34 superscore (34 math, 35 english, 33 science, 32 reading)
GPA: 3.66 Weighted, like 3.2 uw or something
State: IL
- All science and math courses have been honors or AP, i also took AP Compsci, stats, and some PLTW engineering classes
ECs:
3 years tennis(JV and Varsity - team got 5th at state),
3 years BPA - business(2 years state, 1 years nationals),
2 years math honors society
saturday morning physics program at Fermilab,
Work experience also
what do you guys think my chances are for CSE?
Son was accepted into CSE today! Very excited!
No email yet, just a change in the portal status.
Has anyone heard back from CEHD yet?
@jpc763 my D17 was accepted to Carlson and she never received an e-mail. Her tracker changed and then a couple weeks later she received the acceptance packet. Pretty sure that’s how it worked for my older kids as well (who applied to CLA).
Admitted to Carlson School of Management today! Applied September 22. I’m so excited!

@gopherpride keep your chin up! Work hard senior year so your trend is up and keep us posted. Waiting for decision for S2 applied late October 24. Good luck everyone!
Does anyone know how long it’ll take for the application to process? Applied right before the Nov 1 priority deadline to Carlson. So nervous!
@jh1868 give them a call so you can get your ID # and access your Application Tracker. That will give you the most current status of your application.
