Alright, I think this is the right place for this topic to go.
I have a "lump" on the left side of my index finger from where I write so much on my right hand.

I've had it on my finger for quite a while, but yesterday I wrote this really long DBQ and now that lump hurts like a lot today. I avoided writing today because it hurts my finger. And well it's um, kinda large in my opinion, people told me I should get it checked out. And now I need to write my homework, and it's just killing me..

Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? My friend had a lump on her wrist, I don't know from what, but I think it went away by itself..but I don't think this will go away because I will continue to write my whole life. I could get a lump on my wrist from where I drag the mouse so much, sometimes my wrist hurts after a long while at the computer. But yeah..that's a different story. I'm talking about how to fix this finger lump before it slows my writing down considerably on the AP essay questions next Friday.

Grips don't really work, in fact they irritate my finger more and make me write slower.

Is this soft tissue swelling and is there something I can do at all? Ice..anything?? Sorry this was so long..and sorry if it grossed you out.
Man I don't want to get arthritis or anything.

Back in the 80s I developed a huge blister on my thumb in the shape of the 'A' button on the Nintendo controller from playing Super Mario Bros too much. No big deal, just pop it.

It's not a blister, it's like a lump of skin that's grown from writing too much on the side of my finger. I think it is soft tissue swelling. Oh man.

Is it poppable? If so pop it. If all that comes out is blood when you try to pop it, then I would ice it up and razor blade it off. If it grows back and still hurts, go see a doctor.

No it's not poppable. I think I'll ask my parents when they come back from their shift. It's just like "there". An ugly lump. It's not really noticeable, it's just a little redder than the lower skin around it.

It's probably just a callous that is enlarging because you have been agitating it a lot. Most people have calouses where they write, especially if you press hard when you write. There's nothing wrong with you if it seems to be that, if it looks infected then I would get it checked out...but it's probably just from, well, writing.

Masculines are problematic.
Well the "lump" was a little less than an inch down on my index finger.
And I asked my dad who's a doctor, and he said it was a "pressure callous" from where I press down too hard.
He said I could either switch to a pen where the ink comes out easily or something like that..or I could stop pressing hard.
So..yeah, tagran was right. Thanks everyone. :)
By the way, it is un problema. It's grammatically incorrect when people say "No problemo"..it should be "No problema". ;)

sarorah: I also developed one of those "lumps" on my right hand a few years ago from the way I write. The doctor said not to worry about it, but apparently he recommended that I don't get it removed. Gah!

It's "No hay problema". "No problema" is gramatically incorrect in Spanish. The word "problemo" does not even exist.
In the original topic, I have had lumps like yours. In my case, all I had to do is change pens, there are some that have ink in gel form that are really good, and you don't have to press too much to write.

Haha..mine isn't quite as bad on Google..and yeah, my dad showed me a smaller lump on his finger because he's doing more surgery than writing..lol
Soo..I guess several people get it and I should take a break from writing :)
I like to write because I can get some really good ideas flowing, but the actual "writing" irritates me.
Yep, index finger is 2nd finger, on the left side toward the first finger.
You see how the girl is holding her pen on the first website in the top picture? That's how I hold my pens and pencils.
ANd thanks Mariana, I'll keep that in mind next time I go to Spanish class. The first website was advertising some type of pen that helps with those lumps.

It might be a callous. I developed one when I was in second grade and have had it ever since. It was a tiny bump and now it's 1.5 cm major axis and 0.75cm minor axis to give you some gruesome details. It's because of the way I write. One summer where I didn't, it started going down, but of course school soon started and it redeveloped.

If you care about the way your fingers look, I'd suggest writing so that your pencil leans on a different finger so that it eventually goes away.

But as for me, I don't really care. I consider it a permanent fixture, a "friend" on my finger if you will. Ok, maybe that sounded gross. But it's probably just a callous.

Yeah those google images are quite nasty. Mine is by no means that big or that ugly.
