Hi,
I have a serious problem that I am very stressed about. Hopefully, some of you can help.
About a year and a half ago, I took the SAT Math II test and scored an 800 on it. I took 6 Chemistry tests in between to try to get the perfect score and finally, I got it this month. However, I have just learned that SAT has a policy where you may only send your 6 most recent scores and therefore am unable to send my math score. All of my early apps have deadlines before I would be able to take a new Math test and send in the score. I understand that with these schools, in the worst case scenario, I would just have to switch my application to regular decision. However, my number one school of choice closes their entire applications on November 2nd and does not have any application opportunities any later.
I appealed to the Collegeboard in hopes that they will allow me to send my scores with the Math II attached to it.
My questions are this:
What are my chances of getting this appeal?
Has anyone else been in my situation and can tell me some more information about it?
Never heard of any such rule. Cannot find such a rule on CB’s website. CB has traditonally sent all test scores it has for you whenever you order scores sent unless you choose to withhold one or more tests. Can you provide a site or something to show CB’s position?
Also what college are you referring to that closes all applications, including for regular admission, on Nov 2? If such a college exists it cannot be one that even uses subject test scores for admission because all those that do have later application deadlines for regular admission.
The only “six” limit statement I found in the instructions is the following:
“Your six most recent SAT and six most recent SAT Subject Test reportable scores are reported to you and to your high school. We keep your full score history on file. We only report the scores to colleges that you select through Score Choice, but we cannot delete scores from your record.”
If that is what you are referrig to, then you have no issue. That section is saying only that when CB sends scores to you and your high school after a test is taken, no more than the last six tests that you have taken will be included in that report. That has nothing to do with what you can send to colleges and the instructions say CB will send all test scores it has for you absent your exercising score choice to withhold some.
Have you actually tried to send scores yet? If not, you can and should order the scores sent immediately if applying early action or early decision. You do not have to have your application completed to send scores. If you tried to send scores and you could not include the math score, then you should call CB and tell it you are having a technical -problem sending scores and want to order them sent.
To reassure you, I just want to say that I’m a lawyer whose job includes interpreting rules. I read the section and agree that @drusba is absolutely correct. You have no issue. (Well, you have a troubling perfectionism issue since you took the Chem test 6 times to get a perfect score, something that was totally unnecessary and pointless–but that’s another story.)
Yes, I tried sending them but the website would not allow me to. After calling CB, they said there was nothing they could do but appeal to a higher department and hopefully I would be able to get them sent in time.
As for the perfectionism, it was not my choice to take the test 6 times. I definitely wanted to improve my score, but after my 780 on my third test, I was done. It was my parents that demanded a perfect score from me.
Hello, I’m facing a very similar problem and it is quite stressful. I took a SAT subject test back in my freshman year and since then I have had 6 more SAT subject test dates. Now when I try to send it with that freshman year sat subject test, it does not let me. Has yours gotten resolved yet? If so what did you do? If not, how are you going about it?
I am sorry about the late reply. Hopefully you have it figured out by now. The collegeboard allowed to me send my scores to the two early admission schools, but I had to retake the test to send to my regular decision.
I don’t think the College Board should allow students to waste so much time and energy on these tests. Making a career of taking college admissions tests is a losing proposition for the student and for the country. Students should know that this behavior is frowned upon by many colleges who might reject students on the basis of their decision to devote their precious time and energy to such a meaningless task. I would think a college would be more interested in a student who scored a 750 and only took one test than a student who scored an 800 after taking the test 8 times.
