"Biomedical Engineering is currently not ABET accredited."

What exactly does this mean? I know that ABET is "the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology," but not much other than that...

Is this something I should consider in deciding on my major? Also, when does a student officially declare his/her major? Thanks!

I believe it is not yet accredited because the undergrad program in fairly recent.

Michigan's College of Engineering is not the kind of school that has problems with ABET accreditation. I assume that when they undertake the process, they will gain accreditation.

so what does that mean for students who are in this program...will their diploma be valued less vs a diploma from a comparable school that does have accreditation?

Gumba, Michigan's BME program is ranked among the top 10 nationally. I doubt you will have trouble with a degree from Michigan Engineering...ABET accredited or not.
