UNBELIEVABLE! A few UCLA transfer kids who got in!!

Two friends of mine who got in last year and 2004:

Person A:
3.28 GPA
Physiological Science
No extra-curricular or work during her years at the CC.
Although she did talk about her high school activities in her personal statement.
No Honors.

Person B:
3.2 ish GPA
Political Science Major.
No honors.

This is no joke. :/ They got in with the bare minimum GPA!

cool. these applicants proly had their prereqs done.

Kewl. They probably had special circumstances that made them deserve it then.

I wanna be a cool kid too.

Well you are a hobo...certainly being homeless and still going to school will help.

yeah, but i don't think they'll appreciate me stealing computers and such

Yep, well Person A completed all her IGETC's within two years. yes, two years!! As a bio major too. Sheesh. It'll take me three years if I was her.

Really? So if you load up with lots of IGETC and prereqs but do B work you'll have a better chance of getting in versus Taking smaller courseloads but getting A's?

she told me she had a bunch of AP credits from her high school so that she got away quicker with some GE's

igetc is nothing. it's major prep for science majors, which takes more than 2 years for most and over 70 units.

General chem 10 units
ochem 10
calc 10
physics 8
bio 10-12
biochem 5

that 55 units, plus igetc will take u to 25 more units or so.

thats what is like to be a science major.

Dude! What about Person B! TELL ME! DO IT NOW!

highschoolda... engineering is very high unit major too.. may be 80+ units! I manage to get the IGETC (not needed for engineering) but for math major while taking some preg for engineering for some schools hahaahahah
Yeah, and some of my friends who are in bio-chem are following a simlilar trend too 80+ units (most hard core science courses)...
It is kind of unfair for science/engineering major since getting A in organic chemistry is much harder than getting A in a GE course; thus maintaining a high GPA while taking hardcore science is like holding a 200 pounds rock on the back of your shoulder and most of us need 3 years to finish 80+ while other majors only need 2 years to finish IGECT with 60+ ... kind of unfair :D

Yam, what community colleges in California did your freinds go to?

yeah engineering people have it bad too. most bio majors don't get physics done and uc adcoms are understanding of it.

kind of unfair since a history major has to only have 4 history classes done which is around 12 units and i think a stats classes or something...

nothing personal allena.

I want to hear the stories of UC transfer apps who got rejected with ridiculously high stats. Those would be interesting.

There were a few people on here who had some incredably high stats get turned down for UCLA and Cal. I don't remember the specifics, but they came as a surprise.

allena, so, in other words, you are implying that having incredible stats does not necessarily mean you will get accepted to LA or CAL.

Well if you've got those great stats it's going to help... A lot... But I mean with these schools nothing is a sure thing.

For the record those who got rejected with those high GPA's I believe were lack some of their prereq's.

it probably is also because of their personal statement. Maybe it wasn't that persuasive.

Neji: personal statements rank kinda low for transfer students I think...mostly it's prereqs and GPA

anybody know of low GPAs getting in Engineering majors in UCLA? I am EE and 3.78 which I think is the average or something...
