My friend got accepted into all Ivy Leagues.
His/Her SAT was about 1550
S/he took 3 SAT IIs. All of them close to 750
GPA (s/he said s/he put top 10%)
His/her activities were
President of debate team (s/he has been in it for 4 years but president in his/her senior year)
And leaders in someother clubs. (Key club, 4H, whatever)
S/he got good recommendations from her Eng, History teachers

I thought only special peopl get accepted to Ivies
Although I don't know what s/he wrote in her essays, s/he wrote it last minute with other essays for other ivies. s/he got accepted into all those ivies. Why and How did she get accepted?

Well, the reason she got accepted is because...
WHO KNOWS?!
I don't think you'll get a clear answer from anyone besides the adcom that admitted her. ;)

He/she sounds exactly like the kind of person Yale would admit.
Strong all-around student , obvious leadership ability, and I'm betting with his/her strengths in debate, he/she wrote knock-out essays. (For excellent writers, time is not a big factor) If his/her teachers loved him/her, this combo would be enough.
He/she sounds pretty "special" to me.

And shouldn't you be feeling happy that your friend got accepted instead of wondering how and why?Not to mention nobody can answer that for sure.

You also don't know what the teacher recs said.......this can count for a lot, a statement such as "the finest student I've had in 10 years" well you can see for yourself that it goes a long way.

I got into every ivy I applied to, and im a minority. This list includes, cornell, yale, princeton, darmouth, and harvard. Other noteworthy schools r duke, john hopkins, and stanford. Could it all be coincidence, or just cause i am an all-around student-athlete.

Ok, you don't have to be "special" to get into Yale. I still don't know why I got in since I'm a member of an "over-represented minority" and was pretty standard on paper. I'm not a first-generation college student, either. So yes, there is hope for those of us who aren't "well-lopsided," to use a term from Harvard.

Also, this speculation over whether or not the applicant being discussed was a URM, etc., isn't exactly necessary as you can never be sure why this person got into Yale. Just try your best to stand out from the crowd via your application while staying sincere.

Hah. The percentage of Asian students in the entering class went up to 13% or 14% this year (I think). It had been going down for the last two years.
