UNC 2017 Transfer Student Thread

I would say that if the admissions team is in a good mood, they may be more positive about the applications they are reviewing. But, they do reread applications over the course of a few days, so I wouldn’t think that this would be a huge factor either. And it’s not like anyone who wasn’t already thinking about transferring could submit an application now since they were due in February. It’s best to think rationally in these situations.

UNC winning should not have an effect on this years admissions. Next year there will be a huge up swing in applications, making admission even more competitive. A lot of applicants will make the decision to apply to UNC solely on their NCAA win. This happens at all schools that make it to the tournament and win. At my current school UNCW, admissions have documented the dramatic up tick in applications due to UNCW making it to the NCAA tournament the last 2 years. I think UNC admissions are well into this years admission process for the NCAA win to effect us.

I’ve been doing good on not thinking about the decisions until now! I just want to know already lol

I found out today that I got into another school, and they happen to have a similar acceptance rate to UNC. Now I am just waiting on UNC, which happens to be my top, and now all I think about is how much I want to be in Chapel Hill. Really hoping decisions come out soon.

T-minus 1 week

@gwil7897 congrats I will say having a back up school that you know you would enjoy does relieve some pressure from your number one choice. I got accepted to Greensboro, not the hardest school to get into by any means, however, they have a reputation in my field of study and I know people there who are enjoying there time.

@gwil7897 Congrats! If you don’t mind me asking, what school was it?

Do not forget UNC did make it to the finals last year. So I can imagine that there would be a larger than usual applicant pool. Unless they have brought in new faculty or increase their faculty to student ration (which colleges are hesitant to do), the acceptance rates will be lower this year (based off last years achievements). It would be niece to think that sports have nothing to do with admissions. Ultimately, that is why universities maintain a sports program, they are single-handedly the most successful recruiting tool. It is interesting we get to have this discussion.

@BryantB02 Thank you! American University in D.C. I honestly wish that every person on this thread could get accepted because we are all suffering through this together.

I think we will find out before Friday (4/14) because UNC is off for Good Friday.

I hope so. But who knows. They just got through a huge number of first year applications last week. https://nscpp.unc.edu/transfer-students/transfer-new-student-orientation I had a good feeling about this week because of this website but now I’m guessing next week probably Tuesday-Thursday or possibly after Easter weekend.

Let’s say we do find out tomorrow because of the website opening up for reservations for the orientation, shouldn’t we receive an email with guidelines about checking decisions at least day before?

@elontounc123 Yeah that’s why I don’t think we are getting them tomorrow. But it really could be any day.

There’s no way we are getting them tomorrow. If we get a decision any time this week, it will be the earliest in last five years by a whole week! My guess is Wednesday afternoon of next week

I mean we are all guesing. Hopfully we will know soon.

UNC just posted how to view your transfer decisions on the blog…Don’t these posts come the day before decisions are released?

http://admissions.unc.edu/admissions-blog/2017/04/06/transfer-applicants-view-decision-available-2/

For the past two years at least that’s been the pattern!!! I’m excited but I’m not getting my hopes up unless they email us. @phoenix23

Have they ever released decisions on a Friday?

@elontounc123 They did in 2015.

My takeaway is that we will be finding out sooner rather than later. I do not think this blog post or orientation update would come out as soon as it did unless we were to find out. The next big step will be finding out about such steps via e-mail. I applied last year as a first-year early action and then was deferred and then not accepted. The first e-mail regarding a decision was sent to me around 5:30 and then the second time around I received the e-mail close to 9.
