UNC 2017 Transfer Student Thread

@mtq111 I don’t think financial need factors into if a qualified student is admitted, waitlisted or denied. How an applicant compares to the current pool of other applicants is the major deciding factor. I know it seems crazy to see applicants with lower stats getting over students with perceived higher stats. Each year all the schools and programs at UNC have different average GPA rates of their admitted applicants. Some schools have lower GPA averages and some higher. This makes comparing stats/EC’s of admitted, waitlisted and denied students difficult. I applied for financial aid and got in.

@uncletmein2017 : did you get award letter of FA? I have not yet.

I am not expecting FA awards to go out until late next we or the week after the Easter Holiday. I don’t think any transfer students have received FA award info. Also I don’t think any works on the weekend in the FA or admissions office at UNC. The link below gives some info on FA dates.

Hey guys,

I got accepted into Economics yesterday. I want to study finance in KF though so I’m gonna have a tough choice to make for colleges. Wish you all the best!

Hello,

Was accepted as a sophomore and so excited! I was wondering if anyone was having trouble with logging into the Transfer Student Sakai site? I’ve already paid my deposit, but it says “The site you requested is not available.” I’ve made my ONYEN and email as well if that helps, though I can’t log into my email via the heelmail link they put on the checklist, as it comes up an error. Sorry for all the questions, I’m just so anxious because I don’t want to screw anything up. Thank you for reading!

@joshuacrn …I am having similar issues…guess they would get resolved soon.

@joshuacrn @Chrismyke

Problem being that the deposit has not been logged in the system with UNC. It has to be confirmed during business hours that the deposit has been paid; then, we’ll have access to features that are reserved for those enrolled.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for UNC

I am in the same boat (paid the deposit and created an ONYEN and email). I also can not access content on Sakai. I will say that UNC has a confusing network. I just now found out that UNC does have online summer school (not advertised on Connect Carolina course search.

A lot of stuff has to wait until the deposit is processed. But the language placement test is available! I took it today and it wasn’t so bad. Some conjugations, some reading comprehension, and some listening comprehension.

@isuncforme493: Does everyone has to take the language placement test?

If you’ve finished all three levels of a language then no. If you plan on taking another level at unc (I have only taken 2 levels, and have to take a third) , then they told me to try to take it before registration if I felt ready.

@ScQuan

@isuncforme493: My major is computer science. I took ENG 101 (English composition 1) and 102 (composition 2). I’m taking an Eng 200-level literature class. Those are required. I have no idea whether I will take the placement test or not.

I’m pretty sure those classes should be fine if they are on your transfer credit report. Foreign languages are pretty much the only exception. @ScQuan

@isuncforme493 : thanks. My ENG 101 and 102 are accepted, but equivalent UNC classes are ENGL ---- . I’m confused about the “----”
We have to take ENGL 105 right?

If you didn’t receive credit for English 105 you can do a portfolio or you can take the class. They’re really picky about English 105 transferring so I guess ---- means yours didn’t. You can still petition it, I think. @ScQuan

@isuncforme493 : thanks. I just figured out that only NC community college with agreement will have ENGL 105.
English is my second language. I’m not confident about the portfolio.

It’s not due right away. If you don’t want to take the class you could always work on it with the writing center. Or you could just take the class. I would set up an advising meeting (I set one up for next week over skype) and see what’s best. @ScQuan

@isuncforme493 : what is your major? I may meet you right there, UNC. Haha
