when did you guys get an email with instructions for making a login? i’ve applied before so i still have my same login as before, but i’m almost sure that i should be getting a new one.
figured out how to do it, i called in and they just told me to reset the password for that account for that email. it worked and i was able to log on with the same email i used last year
Can we send our transcripts from other colleges electronically or does it have to be by mail? My old cc has both options.
I have A in organic chemistry 2. Boom!

@johnpfc3 not yet. My transcripts aren’t in yet
@johnpfc3 Yep! Got that email last month so I assume it’s standardized.
@johnpfc3 I got one on Monday I submitted my app four weeks ago and my transcripts and To-do list was complete two weeks ago.
does anyone know how your chances differ after only being in college for one semester compared to someone that has 40+ hours?
@martintrevor it really depends. They look at your college grades but at your high school too since you aren’t far removed from it. I don’t think it hurts your chances unless your high school grades are really bad. If you’ve improved from high school, they’ll notice that too so it won’t hurt unless you’re high school grades and scores are very poor
@martintrevor I would say yes there is a big difference. One semester in college does not give admissions that much more additional information. Even if you made all A’s in the one semester in college. Your high school grades and test scores will be what they will be looking at for the most part. They say that on the admissions site. I feel if a person would have been wait-listed last year, one great semester could make the difference this year.
@uncletmein2017 you’re right. Is it true they look at test scores heavily too? I mean I know they look at GPA but from what I’ve heard in some cases GPA can be misleading because some high schools are considered stronger than others. With me, my high school GPA is a 3.9 but I went to a very hard and prestigious high school. My test scores are around the average of those accepted and I have a 4.0 GPA in college which like you said doesn’t carry much weight
@BryanB200 I think this is where UNC’s “holistic” approach comes into to play. They will look at everything unless you are transferring in as a Junior. I did not submit my high-school SAT scores, I did submit my high school transcript and lets just say my grades where not great at all. I will be transferring as a junior.
Mind giving me my chances?
College GPA: 4.0 after first semester (16 credits)
HS GPA: 3.9 weighted (attended a very rigurous high school with 8 people now at Chapel Hill)
SAT: 1220/1600
ACT: 26
EC: Three sports in high school: four years of baseball, two years of football, and one year of basketball. All-Conference baseball selection, BETA Club, National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, current college baseball player, sports writer for two websites and school paper, Volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club, Former Jimmy John’s Employee
Also received a $40,000 scholarship from my current college as well as a $24,000 scholarship from my current college
Internships:
3-month internship at an architect firm
Essay:
Want to raise awareness for premature births and help save lives since I was born three months early.
Other essay included wanting my hometown to become safer as it is only safer than 4% of cities in the US
Recommendation Letter:
Not completed yet but plan on having two recommendation letter sent. One from a highly respected teacher and my lifelong doctor who I’ve grown close to since of my birth situation
@uncletmein2017 sorry forgot to tag you
@jtut2006 how is Organic 2? I decided to take it this summer at a cc instead of this semester since there’s a 6% pass rate at my school. Is it that bad?
Hey guys, do you think I have a shot?
I’m applying as a first-year student with 26 completed credit hours after this semester.
HS GPA: something like 3.0
CC GPA: 3.54
ACT: 24
EC’s: run my own blog (fishfliez.com), paid internship (40 hours a week) for the past year still doing it, worked for tech-recycling startup, worked at several other fast food resteraunts
LOR: good LOR from carolina business grad, my supervisor, and two CC prof.
My essays were pretty good. Essentially, I just talked about how I plan to improve given that I have never really had the chance to focus solely on my education. Hoping that my experience working for a tech-recycling startup and other internships will carry most of the weight.
Anyways, what do you guys think? What should I improve on should I get denied?
Also in state
@wdp3232 honestly, it’s probably about the flip of a coin. Your GPAs and ACT are below what they usually accept but you have good ECs and it seems like you have good LOR. Your essay about the education part might not help because most people don’t get the chance to focus solely on academics with sports, clubs, or extracurricular activities going on. if there’s more personal reasoning for your education stuff then that’s totally understandable and don’t take the last sentence too seriously if that’s the case.
Can anyone chance me?

Hooks: first gen, sibling currently attends/transferred to UNC as well
ECs: Volunteering, newspaper,
Essays and LOR were strong
Applying to CAS with intention of applying to business school
Applied in high school and was waitlisted.
Thanks for any and all replies!
@johnpfc3 I’d say you have a great chance. GPA and scores are great. ECs aren’t great but good and your test scores will makeup for whatever they might think you lack. I’m no representative but I’d say you have a good chance. Just curious are you in state?
