If that was the case, wouldn’t they be able to give individual students their decision as soon as it’s available? If my application was reviewed and decisioned when it was complete (in January), why would they make me wait until mid April for my decision?
Because at most top schools, they have to compare you to other applicants in order to make a decision, that’s why they release decisions at the same time for every student. For an example, I might already get rejected but they won’t release it until mid-April When UNC send out the email saying your app is completed, UNC might just want to inform you that your app is completed but does not mean that they will review it immediately since UNC received 44000 of the first year applicants. It’s possible for them to start looking at transfer applications until the regular admissions come out because they are only 3300 application for transfer in which significantly less than first-year applications. These are just my assumption.
Either way, we will find out in early April and that’s the important thing. I could be wrong about when they review/decision, but I’m focused on staying positive until the day comes.
Very true, it really doesn’t matter if they are reviewed or not as they all come out together. Trust me when I say this everyone has a great chance. UNC is very holistic and keep up the positive vibes. This is what I told my daughter. If it is meant to be you will get in…if not then it was not meant to be:)
If accepted, do y’all plan to live on campus or off campus?
Of course on campus
Like I stated before, my GPA is 3.7 for all three semesters of college, and 3.7 weighted for high school. I’m a first-generation African American male. Worked during high school as a fry cook for KFC and throughout college as a habilitation technician in my mother`s Group Home. I also mentioned in my application I did youtube. However, I did not give them the channel name, and that I was granted a leadership position over a cryptocurrency community online where I had to answer questions about the specific coin I was over to potential investors. @UNCISMYDREAM
I would choose off campus is it was still relatively convenient but I’m not sure if there is some sort of requirement to live at least a semester on campus before being able to live off campus and whatnot?
Here’s the transfer housing site: https://housing.unc.edu/residents/future-residents/transfer-students
You can certainly live off-campus if you choose to do so. @DECA4life
So based on the past 6 years decision release dates, they don’t release on weekends. The only time in those years that they went past April 15 release was in 2012 (back when the deadline was March 1 and release date April 16-20). I think the week that we will find out (no exact day) is from Monday, April 9 through that Friday, unless they are behind and need extra days. There is also a chance for Friday, April 6. Sorry for speculating, I just wanted to gather information from past years and share how it might trend with this year.
@HSstudentNC Probably off campus. At this point I’m in the spring semester of my sophomore year and I’m kind of done with dorm life as fun as it was.
Can anyone tell me if you think I’ll get in? Applied to Psychology major, junior transfer, out of state, 4.0 college GPA, 68 college credits completed, HS GPA was bad (like a 2.6), I have volunteered with 2 different organizations throughout college and still currently do so, 1 good letter of recommendation from a professor I have done 3 classes with, and my essays were pretty solid. I did not submit test scores because I had over 60 credits and I never took the SAT/ACT anyway. What do you all think? I’m concerned about the HS GPA and that I didn’t submit any test scores. However, I do feel pretty confident since the average GPA of the admitted applicant is 3.7 and I have a lot of credits done with a 4.0 GPA. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, as I am dying to find out whether I got in or not. Thanks!
With a 4.0 GPA on 68 credits, your chances are pretty good. Since you’re a junior applicant, your high school stats become less relevant compared to sophomore applicants. A few pages back I listed some links to past years’ forums where you can find a fair amount or junior applicants who didn’t do the best in high school, but a strong college coursework, essay and ec’s helped them be admitted. None of us know how much consideration UNC gives towards each part of our applications, so it’s hard to say what everyone’s chances are beyond the stats(GPA, scores, etc).
Thanks for the reply. I also forgot to mention that I had a learning disability growing up and that’s why my HS record is bad. I explained that in my transfer essay.
Someone Chance me!!
Highschool Gpa: 4.3 W 4.0 unweighted
College GPA (15 credits) 4.0
SAT: 1190
EC’s science fair club were I won first overall for my county and continued on to win second place in a bigger state competition for Biological Science A.
In a cancer services club in HS that organized a beauty pageant to help cover expenses for cancer patients.
Internship at an insurance office ( HS to present day)
Worked part time at Chick-fil-A.
Job shadowed an occupational therapist.
My test score is low and I didn’t take many AP classes in high school, just one that was BIO and I got an A in. Mainly took honors.
Put in essay strong desire to go to chapel hill bc of their degree in occupational therapy ( only one of two schools in NC)
Personal essay about the kid with a disability that made me want to be an OT
Other personal essay about how I worked a lot during high school (40 hours a week)
What do u guys think? I have a low test score and I wasn’t the “president” of any club, so I think my chances are low.
No one here really knows how much consideration UNC gives to each part of our applications, so it’s hard to chance anyone on anything other than your stats. 4.0 CGPA is awesome (well above the 3.7 average), but it’s only for just a few college classes. As a result, your HS stats will be very relevant. Your HS stats are still competitive considering you’re a sophomore applicant. There is no data on the average HS GPA of transfers, but an 1190 SAT would probably fall around the 20th percentile of accepted students given the data from the 2017 transfer profile.
For your EC’s and essays, I honestly can’t say how much they help your chances because there is no data on how big of a factor they are in the decision. The ones you listed sound great, but I don’t know what UNC considers to be great EC’s/essays or how much it matters. They do review applications holistically, so they will definitely make a decision based upon your application as a whole. Also, occupational therapy is a great field. I plan on doing physical therapy. @Allisonspenie
Hey y’all! I’m Laurence, and I transferred as a sophomore here in UNC. Now, I’m a junior Business major and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics minor, and I’m also the current VP of Tar Heel Transfers (the only student-led transfer organization here in UNC). If y’all have questions about anything–like my experience as a transfer has been so far, logistics when accepted from a student perspective, etc.-- please just e-mail me at laudale@live.unc.edu. While I would love to answer eveyone’s questions here, I just don’t have the time to backread 25 pages haha.
Anyway, y’all have already done your work, so just enjoy your semester and hope for the best! I remember the anxiety when I was applying to all these colleges, and I wish I just spent those days back with my friends. Hope to see y’all here soon!
PS if y’all happen to visit UNC, I can definitely meet up during my available time.
Have you any of you applied ? If so have you heard back yet? Does anyone know when we will?
We’re supposed to hear back mid-April, so hopefully by the 15th. @rebekahalfaya
I applied as an incoming sophomore, although I may have enough credits to be a junior. Based on the last 6 years, there hasn’t been a release on weekends or a release after April 15th(except in 2012). The earliest release was April 7th in the past 6 years. I am thinking that the week we will find out is Monday, April 9th through that Friday the 13th. If they are behind and need a few days, it’s possible for Monday, April 16th. The earliest date I see decisions being released is next Friday, the 6th. @rebekahalfaya
