UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

@transferdog I’m out of state so I have to see the financial aid first, but UNC has become my favorite school so I would definitely commit if it was doable.

I may wait to see what my financial aid package looks like before I accept, but I do intend to accept the acceptance very soon after if accepted.

Speaking of finaid does anyone know what the time frame is after decisions for award letters?

I just checked last year’s thread and it took about 4-6 days before people started getting their finaid awards letters after admission decisions were released.

Also, the dates in which last year’s transfers got their transfer credit reports varied quite a bit. This could be frustrating if it’s like that this year. It’d be nice to know which credits will transfer before you register since classes can fill up quick.

Wow so we should know our financial aid awards within a week or so of getting accepted?! I sure hope so! I don’t know why but I remember reading somewhere that a preliminary transfer credit report could be seen upon acceptance, but that then this could be appealed later on…has anyone else heard this or am I mistaken?

You would definitely be able to repeal your report if you think they got it wrong, but I looked in the 2017 thread and some people got their reports right after acceptance and for others it took up to 2 weeks.

I applied last year to transfer as well, but unfortunately, I didn’t get in. Just so everyone knows, the email advising students to look out for decisions came the day before decisions were released (I’m not sure if that was posted on the transfer page last year and just wanted to let all who are curious know). Just because we have not gotten an email as of yet does not mean that they won’t be out this week at some point. That being said, we do have to keep in mind that the deadline was extended slightly this year. This may mean that the decision date may be slightly later than last year. Regardless, try not to stress about when the decisions will be released because it’s out of our hands! Best of luck to everyone!

Does anyone else wake up and go straight on their emails and then to this sight??

Yes oh my god lol

Would you mind sharing your stats ? Or if not too personal, the reason for not being admitted? I’m a little nervous for myself. Thank you!

Is anyone else here applying as a transfer from an NC Community college?

I am applying from a NC community college. Rejected senior year HS.

I didn’t apply last year. Statistically 38% of the transfer class last year were from NC CC’s, so I hope to be a part of that statistic for this year.

@alliezannino What were ur stats last year if u don’t mind sharing?

Reading last year’s thread, many people started to register right away once registration was open. However, would we need to pay for our classes right away too? Because we won’t have our financial aid packages yet probably…

@NerdyNinja80 @rebekahalfaya I don’t mind sharing my stats. last year I applied to attend UNC at the start of my sophomore year of college, however, one of my credits from my university (the University of South Carolina, Columbia) was not going to transfer so I had to apply as a freshman transfer. I definitely think this hurt my chances. I had a 4.0 GPA my first semester, however, my high school grades were not great. My cumulative high school GPA was only a 3.7. Though my GPA my junior and senior years was a 3.9 unweighted, it was not enough. I had pretty good extracurriculars in high school (president of two clubs, won an award, competed at a national level and was captain of the school’s mock trial team, etc.) and in college (hall representative for hall government, a club directed towards my major, a fitness club, etc.) and a recommendation from one of professors who really liked me since I finished with the highest grade out of all of the classes she taught that semester. I definitely think being out-of-state also hurt me. I didn’t let that discourage me, though! I am reapplying this year as a transfer now having completed 44 credits which will be 59 by the end of the semester. I have maintained my 4.0, and have gotten involved in a few more extracurriculars at USC. I’m hoping this year works out differently for me!

also did anyone notice that they removed the writing on Connect Carolina that said Undergraduate Admissions were available? hopefully that means decisions will be released soon!

I also noticed that they removed the “Undergraduate decisions are now available” and replaced it with “Coming Wednesday, April 11, 2018: A Fresh Look for the connectcarolina.unc.edu Website”. I wonder if that has anything to do with when decisions will be released or if it’s coincidental. @alliezannino
