Was your report sent to your UNC email or is it on Connect Carolina? @Blah1234
Hi! @AwkwardNewYorker yeah I’ve only heard back/been accepted to UNC & Binghamton. I’m still waiting on like 6 more schools
@HSstudentNC It was sent to the email I used to apply with. I’m surprised that I got it this early cause it usually takes a week just like you said.
ACCEPTED !
Wake Tech CC : 3.57 GPA
60 credits
I got accepted. My Major advice to those who may be viewing these past forums for fall 2019 transfer. Your personal essay. Do not spend time listing your achievements, that is what your transcripts are for. Put your soul into your essay, explain how you see the world. Thousands of applicants are going to list their achievements in their essays…why would you want to flow with the flock? Be bold. Stand out. Be a Tar Heel. To become a Tar Heel.
First time posting, although I’ve been checking this thread for a while lol
One thing I haven’t seen a lot of is people’s age, so I’m curious about that.
I got accepted and I’m 25, will be 26 in November so I’m pretty much a grandma lol
HS GPA: 4.3 W
College GPA: 3.7
Graduating from Community college next month with two associate degrees, so I’ll have around 60 Credit Hours.
SAT: 1550
Major: Biology
I am so surprised that I got in, I really feel like my essays are what helped me! Congratulations to everyone! I will be looking for a roommate for off campus living, so let me know if you’re interested and we can chat on FB!
Congrats on your acceptance! I’m 19, will be 20 this summer. I was also accepted as a community college applicant.
Hopefully everyone gets their financial aid and transfer credit report by, or before Wednesday since registration starts Thrursday. Last year almost people posted that they got it Monday, and their decisions the Friday before. Hopefully that’s the case. I looked up my majors planning worksheet and I can’t use it till I know what transfers since some things are prerequisites
I’m also 25, but turning 26 this month! Thank god I’m not the only one! @turby92
I’m the grandma here…I am 28 haha
Hey, guys! I’m 17. I guess I’m the baby here lol
Time to chime in.
At 35, I guess I am the great grandpa, and I can confirm that UNC truly has a holistic approach to evaluating transfer applicants.
I had a 2.1 GPA in HS when I graduated in 2001. I failed 4 classes in community college, over three attempts and drop-outs. While all of this happened a long time ago, those are really really bad stats that have to be acknowledged when you are being compared to a stellar group of applicants for a small reserve of available spots. Two years ago my lifetime college GPA was a 1.2…
Yesterday, I was accepted into UNC.
I have also been accepted to all 5 other schools I applied to.
I can only explain this, as being due to a variety of holistically considered aspects:
– My GPA since returning to school in summer 2016 is 3.9 (63 credits).
– I am old.
– I am married and a father of 2 young daughters.
– I will be a first generation 4 year graduate.
– I have over 10 years of legitimate professional agency experience in my current field, which allows for a unique perspective.
I can only assume that in spite of all of my previous shortcomings, my hard work and efforts in the interim have shown me to be worth giving a chance at admission.
So as your great grandpa, what I’m trying to say is that you can mess up in your life - it happens. Things may not work out the way you want them to at the time you think you want them to. But dedicate yourself to your goals, and work hard to achieve them. It happens, y’all!
Time to chime in. At 35, I can safely say I am the great-grandpa. And as your great-grandpa, I want to offer up some wisdom (as great-grandpas tend to do).
Two years ago my lifetime college GPA was 1.2, with 4 failed classes and 3 drop-outs (the last being in 2005). I am married, with two children, and have spent over 10 years dedicating myself to my field and have a stellar professional resume in spite of my lack of formal education.
In summer 2016 I started going back to school at a community college, and since returning, my GPA is 3.9 (63 credits). If all goes according to plan, I will be a first-generation graduate, by the time I am the tender age of 37.
Yesterday, I was accepted into UNC as a transfer student.
The process is truly holistic.
My point is that mistakes are made in life, and it’s ok. If you truly dedicate yourself towards goals, you can accomplish them. It may not always happen when you think or want it to happen, but it can happen, y’all.
I would obviously recommend to anyone to take education seriously from an early age, but regardless, if you got denied and your goal is to attend UNC, then dedicate yourself to being given the chance to attend, and you most certainly will.
Yay! I’m so glad I’m not the only one in my mid-twenties. We all just became best friends haha @stevieleaks you are so right! I really believe my honesty about my past in my essays, and my honesty about how much I’ve grown and changed, helped me get in. I went to community college directly out of high school and flunked out 3 separate times because I had so much going on in life and wasn’t committed. I started back at the community college fall of 2016 and have worked my butt off this time around. I never would’ve thought I could be where I am now.
You’re never too old to start and make a better future for yourself!
Oh my! What I’d give to be 17 again… kind of lol kind of glad I’m a little older now. You’re already a transfer student to UNC at 17?! That is truly an awesome feat, congratulations!
@turby92 Haha! Aww, thank you!
Well, as a college student, I mostly spend time with people who are older than me. But I don’t mind at all! I was homeschooled, so I got to finish high school early. I started taking classes at my community college at 15. Almost done with my AA now and all ready to transfer!
Where are you from? Are you from NC? I would be coming from South FL.
Just a bit of advice to those future transfer applicants reading this thread, a lot of things in your application are not in your hands like GPA and test scores but your essays is all you! Truly write about something genuine and if you feel like your trying to grasp at straws in your essay, than it doesn’t speak to you!! And get involved in your current school, even if your ultimate goal is UNC, they like seeing involvement.
For those who were accepted and are enrolling, are you applying for on-campus housing or are you choosing off-campus? I am still waiting on financial aid before I apply for on campus housing.
