@aflacduck13 I understand that, Data Structure is a really challenging class as well as a weed out class, at my current school 1/4 of the class withdraw last semester because of the difficulty of the homework assignments. You might want to explain that on your application and don’t blame it on your professor.
As far as mid year reports go, I know they’re not required however does it help your chances to send them if you are doing well?
@nduclaunc Well, in my personal perspective I don’t think so… In my college, the most grades in a class are due after the mid-year report which does not reflect accurately.
A mid-term report doesn’t hurt if you’re doing good but I don’t think it would help very much to be honest. You may be doing quite well in your current courses, but that doesn’t mean you’ll finish with those grades. @nduclaunc
Can someone chance me?
I’m currently attending community college and I am planning to transfer to UNC as a sophomore.
High School GPA: 4.62 (W), 3.99 (UW)
SAT: 1320, 630 (English), 690 (Math)
ACT: 27 (Super Scored)
College GPA: 4.00
Extra curricular: Job, Community Service, Family Responsibilities, Club President.
Thank You!.
The Fall 2017 sophomore transfer stats would help though the numbers don’t always tell the whole story. Sophomore transfers had an average College GPA of 3.74, so you are above average. UNC did not give average High School GPA stats for transfers, but I would say your 4.62 is very competitive since that would be a good GPA even for first year applicants. SAT range of 1210-1400, you are above the average here as well. Extracurriculars looks good as well. As long as you had great essays and a solid recommendation, I think you have a great chance. @KanyeYeast
What did you guys write about in your common app essay for reasons for transferring?
I plan to retake my ACT too, thanks for the evaluation. @HSstudentNC
Does the recommendation have to be from a professor? Or would a high school teacher / coach be able to write one? Also any opinions on the best fit for that would be appreciated
It doesn’t have to be from a professor, but I would recommend it be a professor because they are more likely to be able to recommend you based upon your college work rather than your past high school work. If you feel like your coach or high school teacher would provide a better rec for you, choose them. @nduclaunc
I wrote about how I wanted to further my education (coming from a Community College) in order to achieve my ultimate educational goals. I also made my common app essay UNC specific because I am not applying to other universities via Common App. I listed brief reasons for wanting to attend UNC and why it made sense for me to transfer. I talked about the benefits of transferring and how it would help give me the resources to help me become successful. I don’t think this essay is as important as the 2 main UNC essays. @annamanna
@HSstudentNC I think your chance getting in is really high. Btw how many classes you completed 40 credits?
In my school, most classes are 4 credits, but the equivalent class at UNC is like 3 credits…
@HSstudentNC really? I didn’t think about that but ya I think this one isn’t as important as the supplementals.
I have completed 13 classes so far. At my college most classes are 3 credits, but science and math classes are 4 (there are some exceptions). Out of those 13, 3 of them were 4 credits, 9 of them were 3 credits, and 1 class was 1 credit. @UNCISMYDREAM By the way just so everyone on here is aware, the decisions should be posted on April 7th if UNC follows past release schedules. I looked back on previous years’ UNC transfer threads and that is the day.
This is kinda awkward, I have 46 credits complete and I only have 12 classes completed so far… I took 4 classes each semester.
I think all the essays are important. For the supplemental, UNC is looking your writing ability and creativity. The main essay on the common app is important as well because schools you are applying want to know why they should accept you and what you can bring to the community.
What universities are you guys currently at / why do you want to transfer? just curious
I’m currently at an NC community college and want to transfer because I want to pursue a B.S in Exercise Science and hopefully a Doctorate in Physical Therapy later on. I can’t get a B.S at my CC, so it makes sense for me to transfer.
gotcha!! for sure. what other schools are you applying to? @HSstudentNC
