UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

@Epictetus28 Haha no problem. Really happy for you, congrats :smiley:

It’s pretty discouraging to see that over half the classes I want to take are already full with no wait list seats available. For an example, BIO-101, is available but 101L (it’s corresponding lab) has no seats nor waitlist seats. How would I take just that class without the lab? In addition, many of my major specific classes are filled and I planned on taking 2-3 of those this semester. It is what it is though, I’ll register for what I can and hope what I need becomes available soon.

Saw something on here earlier about letting people in off the waitlist. They do not let one person in off the waitlist for every person who decides not to come that gets accepted. It all depends on the year and 300 or so people may not come, but they may only bring in 40 off the waitlist. There’s still a chance, but just wanted to make sure people know that they don’t replace every person who decides not to come with someone on the waitlist

I’m also having a problem logging into ConnectCarolina. It says I’m not authorized to view this page, which happened out of nowhere. Because of this, I can’t even schedule an advising appointment or make my schedule

@HSstudentNC Try Coursicle. It notifies you when seats are available. Also I thought registrations opened today, but I still can’t register?

@Blah1234 registration opens at 9:45

My schedule is so random because the classes I wanted to take for gen Ed’s are full. A stats class that I have to take apparently has a really bad professor so not looking forward to that.

I’m very confused because a couple of the classes I need for my major aren’t letting me in

Literally was only able to enroll into one class… I have not yet received my transfer credit report which is probably why I can’t register for stats or physics because of the prereqs. I emailed a bio advisor so I hope he can help. I need at least 12 credits in order to use my GI Bill and everything else I tried to fit in my schedule did not work. This is stressful! haha

Physics isn’t even showing up when I try to find it on the search! @dogmom17

I wasn’t able to register for my stats class because I have to take alagra as a prerequisite but I need it for my Econ major. I’ve taken Calc 1 and 2! Guess I have to wait till my transfer credit report is done. @dogmom17 stats for me too

@alliezannino I went to My Planner–>Browse Course Catalog–>P–>PHYS-PHYSICS
Once you “select” one of the open courses it will bring you to a screen where you choose your recitation/lab time and then after you click “next” it will go to your Shopping Cart.

@AwkwardNewYorker Yeah, I’ve taken pre-calc and currently taking calc. I emailed Student Services of the STOR Department. I think that he/she will directly me to emailing the professor to ask since that’s what happened with the email I sent to Student Services of the Physics Department. It’s weird that the prereq didn’t say “MATH 110 or higher”

Yeah registration is a nightmare. I can’t even find open sections for basic entry level classes or classes for my major. I registered for bio but the lab component is closed. Couldn’t even take Spanish 101.

@dogmom17 Thank you! I was looking for PHYS 102, not 114 and I guess it isn’t an option this semester because I can see the other available classes just not that one.

@HSstudentNC Take Spanish online. Change your search for online courses. Spanish 1 online is easy so this way you can do Spanish 2 in spring.

If anyone need Math 110 as a pre course you have to be placed in it by the Math dept or you can bypass that course with a 27 ACT or SAT 2 or AP test. Otherwise you will have to take it for Econ 404 and other maths.

If you are a full-time UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate, you can take one course during the fall and spring semesters. You can take two courses in the summer regardless of how you register for them (either Summer Session I, Summer Session II or full Summer Session).

If you are having trouble getting gen eds try to sign up for 1 class online. Change your search and should be able to see what is!available. My son took 2 online classes which worked out great. Just another option for you

I should have MATH 110 covered once I get my transfer credit report. I tried searching for web based asynch Spanish 101 and the only section available is reserved and apparently I don’t meet the reserved requirements. It’s frustrating because I can’t even enroll in half of the classes that I need to take. I tried doing the broad search within Connect Carolina as well. I guess I’ll just have to take random classes and hope I can take a lot of my required classes next semester.

My prereqs stopped me from adding a few classes, but I got a couple I need so that makes me feel better.

@HSstudentNC Do you mean random classes that are not toward your requirement? Meaning not for your electives? If so please don’t do that. If you cannot get any classes at least to cover your stuff on the tar heel tracker then call an advisor. Remember some of these majors require alot of classes so you don’t want to take fluff classes. Put the ones you know you need in and leave your schedule blank for the rest and then have an advisor help you to plan your time at Carolina.

I am still complexed why they don’t put the transfer credits in before the registration opens up.

Remember you only get 2 years if you are a Junior and 3 years if your an incoming sophomore so make sure your watching your time and classes. This is the one stressful thing about Carolina…You have to finish in 4 years even if you changed majors or came in as a transfer. My son changed majors 2 times and each time it freaked me out, but because he followed the tar heel tracker he is on schedule to graduate on time next year but he is right up to the wire.

I will graduate from an NC CC with an Associates soon, so my gen ed classes should be covered except for foreign language and lifetime fitness. I plan on doing a physical therapy graduate program, so I need extra classes along with the ones required for my major (Exercise Science). Of the classes that I need, I can enroll in 2 this semester. (Major specific EXSS class and lifetime fitness.) Others that I need for my major or for graduate school are full with no waitlist. I understand which classes I need based on the degree requirements and what my Associates will cover. I’m calling an advisor on Monday to see what my options are, but if I can’t take the required classes for my major and for admission into grad school, I don’t know what else to take. So far I have 4 credit hours covered, which isn’t even close to full time. @Nurse001
