UNC 2018 Transfer Student Thread

@Nurse001 you said that “Unfortunately you cannot stay at Chapel hill an extra year. They only extend 1 term and you have to submit a form to get approval.”
Are you sure that applies to transfer students also? Because if I interpreted this correctly it says that transfers can enroll up to 10 smesters if you transfer with equivalency of 2 or more semesters. https://advising.unc.edu/policies-and-procedures/additional-semester-appeal/

@kemobk According to what I read, UNC recently changed their policy so that transfer students can stay a 9th and 10th semester.

@kemobk …Yes you are correct. Guess I didn’t read all the way down that page. So that is good news for transfers. Just keep in mind adding an extra year to undergraduate college might become rather expensive especially for OOS students.

Omg I just got my financial aid y’all! I got the Carolina Covenant!!! I’m so happy!!

Congrats! That’s awesome to hear! I just sent in my need analysis review form so hopefully I receive it as well. @Daisey423

@Nurse001 “Just keep in mind adding an extra year to undergraduate college might become rather expensive especially for OOS students.”
Are you implying that UNC doesn’t offer financial if you add an extra year?

@HSstudentNC I hope you do too!!

@Daisy423 That’s awesome!! I’m still waiting for mine but as an OOS student, I’m hoping I qualified for that as well!

Can financial aid be updated at any time or only during the hours the office is open?

You are eligible for the Covenant if you meet these requirements:
*Be admitted to Carolina as an undergraduate student;
*Complete a financial aid application on time;
*Enroll full-time during the regular academic year;
*Make steady progress toward a degree;
*Be dependent on parent(s) whose income is 200 percent or less of federal poverty guidelines and who do not have other resources to pay for college, or be an in-state independent student whose income is 200 percent or less of federal poverty guidelines;
*Meet citizenship requirements and other eligibility standards for federal financial aid programs.
There is no cap or limit to an amount of students who get it each year, each person that meets these requirements will receive the Covenant.

Mine updated after office hours at around 8 pm Eastern time last Monday. @alliezannino I’m an in state student, not sure if that makes sense a difference.

@Vincent1997 Thank you so much! I’m sorry you have to deal w all of this, but hopefully, the professor can help you figure out what’s going on. In terms of you not getting your transfer report, I hadn’t gotten mine either so today I emailed a woman named Emma Robinson, her email is erobinson@admissions.unc.edu. A few hours after asking about the status of my report, she responded that she updated some of it. For now, the report probably will not include your classes from this year at all because UNC needs your final transcript to officially say which credits will transfer over. It’ll help you figure out what classes you’ll be able to enroll in but not completely. Good luck with UVA!

@Nurse001 I’m sorry to hear this isn’t an isolated incident. I figured I would have to apply to the school of Public Health eventually, I just wish someone had told me before I enrolled in classes geared towards that major. I’ve taken a lot of gen ed requirements so it’s hard for me to find classes that will allow me to graduate on time or very close, count towards PA school, and not be too specific to the public health major.

@alliezannino Thanks for letting me know! I will email her right now! I hope everything works out for you as well.

@HSstudentNC Thanks for posting the requirements! I’ve seen those before. I know I qualified for it when I applied last year but unfortunately, I wasn’t admitted. I think my mom’s income changed slightly this year, so I’m not sure exactly how it fits within the parameters if that makes sense. And thanks for the update on financial aid! I’ve been checking CC and my email constantly so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t wasting my time after office hours lol

@alliezannino my financial aid was updated after 11 pm so it can come any time. Hope you get it soon. If you look at your anticipated aid it should be a good estimate. I’m OOS and had my need “fully met”

@AwkwardNewYorker thank you!! I was able to see my expected family contribution a while ago but the system changed its format and I’m not sure how to see it anymore. When I go into financial aid, I can’t click on anything in the 2019 aid year. I could just be missing something though

@kemobk No I am not implying that. If you qualify for financial aid, I am sure you will continue to get it the additional year. That was a broad statement for people that do not qualify for financial aid.

@alliezannino I am sorry about that. See if you can get an appt with an advisor directly in the Public Health School as opposed to the regular advisor or send an email.

I found this person for Public Health Admission questions: ljones3@email.unc.edu maybe she could help you. Might be worth a shot.

@alliezannino mine just updated around 8:30 pm eastern time so it seems that it can update at any time! I’m not sure if they’re working overtime or if it automatically updates in the system at that time though.

@Daisy423 thank you!! and @Nurse001 Good idea! Thanks for finding the email address, I’ll definitely look into it!
