I’m an in-state, Asian applicant applying early. My school is one of the top schools in the state academically and is UNC feeder (in Wake County). However, my W/UW GPA is scaring me a bit along with my class rank; it’s a bit low mainly because I got B’s in challenging courses, and transferred in from a harder school.
W: mid 4.7
UW: mid 3.6
Rank: Top 15% out of around 600-700
I have good standardized test scores (ACT 34 with 10 writing, Math 2 760) and EC’s with good leadership positions and deep involvement. My essays are not the best but not bad either, maybe a 7/10, and same with recs. Chances?
I think that your GPA is about average for UNC and your ACT is well above average. For in-state I would say you are a safe bet. If you haven’t submitted your app yet and there is any way to make your 7/10 essays stronger then I would say they could be the part of your application that secures a spot for you. Wow, you got a 10 on the ACT writing? I have not seen many people get a 10 in writing on the ACT so I would bet you are a great writer and your essays are probably better than you think. Good luck!
Hey, I am a freshmen at UNC and I know what you are experiencing right now. Listen, nobody on here - not even I can tell you if you get in or not. Take it from an in-stater who literally got a 23 on ACT and stuff and got in all right but if you are in a respected school in Wake County, I am not certain but you do have a shot, especially with you standarized testing scores and stuff. But really, I think you will get in.
