UNC Application

How does the UNC application work for first-year undergrads? I know its online.

What kind of information do they ask for? How are you supposed to submit your teacher's recommendations and how are you supposed to show them your transcript?

I can't see anything because it's locked right now.

If you live in the Great State of North Carolina you have three options: Paper, CFNC, or myUNC.

If you are OSS you can use paper or myUNC.

You are asked residency information, GPA, test scores, etc. about 10 “short answers” and 2 essays (one long, one short) from a list of 7 with the option of choosing your own prompt.

Only one teacher rec is required, and they really don’t suggest that you send in more, but if you want you can. You type the teacher’s email into the appliaton, and the teacher submits the rec. online. You are also given the option of having the teacher mail the letter in.

If you live in NC and your county has NCWISE as its data management system, you can submit the transcript electronically via CFNC. If you don’t live in NC, you live in NC but your county/school doesn’t use NCWISE, or if you just want to submit the transcript in paper, you just mail it to the undergraduate admissions office with your schools official seal on the back of the envelope.

So the application is very similar to that of the UCs and Georgia Tech.

So are guidance counselor recommendations sent out to UNC as well? Do they also have to write the recommendations online? I really don’t know how GC recs are sent in the first place.

Thanks for all your help; it is much appreciated.

If I’m remembering correctly, the guidance counselor rec can either be done online or on paper, like the teacher rec.

You download the guidance counselor form, print it out, and mail it to them. I used the one that came with the paper app that they sent me in the mail (still applied using myUNC).

I don’t believe there is a way to do it online, but this may just be my county, because I know it had a policy against GCs filling out the common app recs online. However, I still think that the GC rec had to be sent in with the paper transcript (or on its own if you used CFNC to send the transcript.)

Yeah, I’m not sure about that. I think my guidance counselor WANTED to do them online, and I sent my transcript via CFNC, so I don’t know for sure about having to send it with your transcript. I can tell you that my school would have issues with that aspect of it, however. (rollsss eyes…)
