UNC Chapel Hill - anyone get a letter yet?

Has anyone found out about their acceptance through the mail or online yet? I know its suppose to be the end of January, and just wanted to know if anyone has gotten anything yet.

[UNC Admissions Blog](http://unc-admissions.blogspot.com/)

yeah I’ve already read this blog…but i didn’t know if everyone would find out on different time in the next two weeks like they were talking about or if we would all find out the same time

My son applied last year and we were in the same position you are in right now: wondering exactly when EA decisions would be released. I know you clicked on the above link to the UNC Blog, but here is an important paragraph from that:

We’re on schedule to release EA decisions, as promised, by the end of January. You’ll receive a paper letter in the mail, and you’ll be able to view your decision on MyUNC. I will not be able to tell you a specific date or time that decisions will be released on MyUNC. We’ve found in the past that giving out a specific time will only increase the frenzy, and if 13,000 students all sit on MyUNC, constantly clicking “refresh,” the whole system will crash.

They are speaking from experience. Last year, we knew the EA announce date was to be Jan 21. I don’t recall HOW we knew that, but there WAS a specific date last year. I’ve heard it will be later in the month this year so I’m sorry for you for that… just waiting until the 21st was hard enough.

Anyway, as the 21st neared, the frenzy on CC and also at the UNC Blog site reached manic levels. Kids kept posting, asking had anyone else heard, constantly posting their “stats” on CC and asking others to “chance” them. At 12:01 AM on the 21st, things REALLY went crazy. Kids stayed up all night, constantly logging in to the site trying to see if they’d gotten in. I admit to checking at 12:01 myself! The WHOLE day went by (it was a Friday and our school had a Teachers’ Workday, so, no school) and then, at 5:00 PM, when we logged into the MyUNC site for about the 20th time that day, we were directed to a different page… FINALLY, something was happening.

You’d think I would remember every little detail of this but forgive me, I do not. I DO remember that, at that point, our computer sat and churned for over an hour, then, drum roll, the page came up with those beautiful words: “We are pleased to announce that you have been accepted…”

OK, to be honest, I’ve actually forgotten the exact words on the screen! After all that angst and anxiety you’d think they would be forever seared into my mind. But, HE GOT IN, YAHOO! I saved the letter (the one that came in the mail a few days later) and stuck it in my son’s “Memory Box”, ha! I’ll go pull it out and read the exact words later just to relive that glorious moment. :)

Point of this long, drawn out post: we knew it was to be the 21st last year and as that day approached, so many people logged in over and over that it overloaded their system. That is my THEORY, anyway. I suspect the school is trying to avoid a repeat of last year. And, even if a date is announced as “the day” for this year it might take you all day to log in and find out your fate so do not be surprised if that happens.

Also, and I thought this was just awful and mean: some kids started, as pranks, posting on CC and on the UNC Blog early in the day on the 21st, “I’m in!!!” HOURS ahead of the announcement. One poster said: “If you got in, you know it already…if you can’t logged in it’s b/c you were rejected.” That set off a frenzy. The UNC blog site was forced to put up a notice saying that it was a false rumor, no announcements had been made. Whew, that moderator surely had her hands full on Jan 21, 2011.

It was a crazy, exciting and ultimately great day in our household and I wish the same for you and yours. My son is very happy there.

Good Luck to all who are applying and anxiously awaiting.

Thanks Native, info all appecitated

You are welcomed ELKyes. Anyone, feel free to PM me with questions about getting into Chapel Hill. Last year when my older son (the Fresh at Carolina) was in the college app process I stalked CC but didn’t post. Now, I’m here for my younger son (HS Soph) who is a musician and, whew, the app/selection/acceptance/audition process for musicians is mind-boggling… it starts in the womb apparently and I’m late to the game but kind CC parents are being MOST helpful, so, if I can return the favor (paying it foward? sideways?) to anyone with questions on UNC Chapel Hill I am very happy to assist.

yes thank you SO MUCH ,its nice to know that their is mothers out there that still care for the rest of us trying to get in :)

Just received my letter of admission in the mail today! Huntersville, NC! They won’t have the decisions online for a couple of days though I guess.

I’m still waiting for today’s mail, can you please share your scores?

I got in :)!

I just got the letter, got in and am VERY excited! For those still waiting, apparently UNC mailed the notifications on Tuesday and they are showing up today. I am in state so the snail-mail travel time was just a couple of days.

They have not yet posted the results on the UNC portal (and there is a statement saying the decisions are not available). There have been a tons of activity on the UNC Admissions Blog but no official statement has been made about the notifications or when they will be available online.

Best of luck to those still waiting to hear!!

ACCEPTED!!
Hey guys,

I got my early action acceptance notification today.

If I understand this correctly, the letters were sent out on Tuesday.
I am in-state, so I got mine today via snail mail. It was a large envelope.

Parents waiting for kids: you can shift the letter in the package and see the first line in the envelope, “I am pleased to offer you
acceptance…”

Home schooled, but duel-enrolled. 4.0 GPA. 2210 SAT Several APs. In state.

Got in! Class 2016!

SAT 2100, gpa 4.5.

Yes, I’m in state too

Congrats to all of you who are receiving your accpetance letters today! I’m the Mom of the Class of 2015 son who related the story of the announcement process from last year. Apparently UNC decided to avoid the computer log jam (and all the rumors and frenzy) of last year by going back to mailing them out the old-fashioned way in advance of their vague “end of Jan” stated date. I talked to a neighbor whose son’s “big letter” arrived today.

Good luck to you all.

SO HAPPY. Accepted today after pretty much falling apart in my last period class. RAN to my car, sped to my house, and ran to my mailbox. Ran in circles screaming before I even opened it. BTW, my stats are 2240 SAT, 33 ACT, 4.23 GPA, lots of aps, private high school.

ACCEPTED! WAHOO! Congrats everyone!
31 ACT
4.83 GPA

accepted! congrats everyone!

out of state, 2290, 4.0 :)

also, did anyone accepted receive any information about merit scholarships/honors college?

accepted! 2240 in-state.

I also got an email about getting nominated for the Pogue scholarship. Do we know exactly how many people get nominated?

I called the scholarship office today…he said either 100 or 140. I can’t remember for sure but I think it’s the former!

Congrats!
