UNC doesn't factor in instate/out of state with transfers, I think CC Students problem was how many credits he had... they don't take people with more than 80, it says so on their website.

I am not a he. Anyway, I thought that there is no cap on community college units for transfer students especially because not all my classes would transfer. Or does UNC do it different than the UCs?

Most colleges, regardless of what would have transferred, do not allow students who have accumulated over two years of credit to attend.

I know for a fact that the UCs do not consider the number of community college units. I can't comment on other colleges. But do you reall think that the accumulation of 116 units at a community college is going to affect my admission decisions? Damn, then I am screwed.

Yes, in fact, most college's transfer quidelines explicitly state the limit.

Even for community college students? I assumed that UC's guidelines would mirror the guidelines of other colleges.

For any student who accumulates college-level credit.

I do not know what grounds there are for that assumption. In freshman admissions, I know the UCs do not even ask for high school transcripts unless one is accepted; this methodology is obviously not reflected in most other top tier schools.

umm aren't people at the UC's getting rejected for having too many credits..i feel like someone was just rejected last week because he/she had 92 credits.

What I meant was that how can they max out your units if the units are lower division? The whole point of transferring is to gain upper division units. I don't care of they only transfer 60 units out of my 116.

That second part presents a good point. But, still it is counter-intuitive to penalize me for spending too much time at a community college, espcially when all the work is lower division.

this may prove useful..

I do not think they delineate between "lower division" and "upper division" credits. A credit is a credit.

I do not think they care either.

Nikki, were they transferring from a four-year?

Honestly, I wouldn't have been able to take all the classes I needed for Berkeley and receive my AA, if I did things any other way. And, out of 116 units, 27 units were all for math. If I only completed 60 units, then nearly half of my units would be math.

Not really. A credit is not just a credit. Seriously, there is a distinct difference between upper division and lower division credits. For instance, you can't receive any upper division credits at a community college.

Actually, I think you are right. At any rate, I did your homework for you...

Thanks, nspeds. I guess UNC's policy doesn't really matter for me though since they rejected me. Do you think if I call them they will tell me why? Or is that just a waste of time?

There is no harm in calling. I think you should, just to make sure.

I guess I will call tomorrow. Anyway, nice website, nspeds.
