coleman4 - Yes, I believe that you did guide us accurately. Thanks for the encouragement. I am fine with USC and the wife is as well. My brother’s daughter went there (in state for them) and graduated with honors and then went on to graduate from law school in 2.5 years so we know it’s a great school. The big issue for the wife is the additional costs of USC over UNC (about double due to the in-state vs. out of State equation) and the fact that we would not qualify for any financial aid. We are trying to ensure that none of our children have ANY student loans when they get out of college and we already have the $'s needed for 4 years @ UNC instate but OOS USC will consume every saved penny and then some so we will be looking into merit scholarships…

Accepted In-state/Male
2100 SAT
3.9 UW/4.8W GPA
16/465
All honors & 7 AP classes
Good EC’s/Good Rec’s

Very humbled and honored right now. Good luck to those deferred.

^ ndabunka - Not to get off track on the UNC forum here (oops!) but hang tight for the merit scholarships at USC - they are very generous and I’m sure your son will qualify for one. He may even get one for in-state tuition. They come out the beginning of March timeframe.

Has anybody else received an email about invitations to events? The blog said we’d get it this morning.

Does anyone know the date for Scholars Day?

@mich5225
Scholarship Day for UNC is Friday, February 21, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
I believe invites are sent via email soon as per the Admissions blog. All I know is that they offer scholarships (from 2k to full ride) to 140 incoming first year students so I guess they will probably invite 200 or so. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

For any of you accepted students interested in attending ExploreCarolina, what dates are you guys planning on attending?? Maybe we might see each other on those days!

Accepted Out-of-state/Female
36 ACT
3.95 UW/4.7W GPA
1/108
All honors & 7 IB classes
Good EC’s/Good Rec’s
Good Volunteerism

Has anyone gotten any invites yet? The FAQs said they would be emailing later today as well as from the events section of your MyCarolina, you’ll be able to view all of your admitted-student event invitations later today. I wonder when ‘later’ is?

@coleman4
By invites, do you mean the ExploreCarolina stuff? I am just gonna wait for the letter through the mail. I live close enough to UNC that it should get to my house either tommorow or Monday hopefully. Email would be easier though obviously.

I’m actually not sure - the blog post just said “all of your admitted-student event invitations” so I was wondering what those were.

On MyCarolina I can see where it says click here to browse your invitations. I follow the link and it says i dont have any events to be displayed. Maybe I just wasn’t invited idk

I got an email for “decision days.” I believe its a Minority recruitment thing. Tour Campus, talk to people, etc.

I got decision days too and I am far from a minority. Probably sent to everyone.

Anyone get any scholarship info?

Got invited to Carolina Firsts, I guess it’s a program for first generation college students. It’s over like two days. My parents ain’t gonna be up for that

Was it on your account or an email?

Mine was on both, but it didn’t appear on my account until after the email

I got invited to Carolina First, Decision Days and Explore

Is the website only referring to these miscellaneous invites, not Scholars Day. When do invites for that go out? Has anyone received an invite so the rest of us can stop looking?

I believe that the Scholars Day invites don’t go out today. Everywhere I look it says “soon after admission decisions” or something like that. It is probably by the beginning of next week as I read that they were sending out ExcelCarolina around then as well so it only makes sense for them do the same for Honors Carolina and Scholars Day.
