UNC Chapel Hill Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

Hey! From what I’ve seen, no. Here is an article I read on it, but it may be outdated  https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2019/01/unc-deferment-change-0129

There is no deferral. Admit, deny or waitlist for EA.

What is accelerated research program ? Do you have to apply firing the application period ? Or it’s offered to accepted students based on their achievements …

Another affirmative action lawsuit against UNC and Harvard…
Part of UNC’s reputation certainly has gone down the drain.

They need to get rid of legacy preference. That would also affect outcomes that affect race.

At HBC’s too right?

At HBC’s to right?

Legacy preference only extends to out-of-state applicants, which make up a tiny fraction of the applicants: 510 out of over 23,000.

In state legacy students receive a letter stating UNC is aware of their legacy status and appreciate the interest. Legacy plays a part in oos,in state students,

Decisions tomorrow??

A bit late to the party - but for educational purposes- does UNC tracks demonstrated interest ?
Also - how many freshman they admit OOS? 900?

No they don’t track demonstrated interest. For info on last year’s class, look here:

Even OOS legacy isn’t a major factor. I have two legacy children both qualified when looking at UNC OOS stats - one was denied, one was admitted. OOS legacy kids who are qualified have no guarantee they will be admitted. College admissions is rough these days! Good luck to all your kids and just know it will all work out. My UNC denied son ended up at another state university and couldn’t be happier. If he had to do it all over again, he would go to the school where he ended up all over again!

Dumb question: How do we find out if decision are released?

How did your two children’s stats compare? Did the one who was accepted have better stats? Was your older one or your younger one admitted?

Older one was denied. Younger admitted. Very similar stats, course rigor, ECs …younger one had very slight edge.

I think they will either send out an email to your portal saying that there is an application status posted to your portal or you can just check the portal periodically and look for updates.

What gender? OOS legacy gives a huge bump (like triple the admit rate or higher) of non legacy applicants. The only people that get in OOS from our high school (with the exception of a valedictorian or two) are legacies. Higher stat non legacies are routinely waitlisted.

OOS admit rate at UNC is 10.5 percent - This is propped up by the out-of-state legacy admits and recruited athletes so non-legacy admits are probably quite a bit lower. Admissions | Admissions Case

Legacy admit rate is in the high 30s.

Less than 1% of UNC enrolled students are from my state (39 students/year) and it looks like no one was admitted from our school since 2004, including those in the uppermost right corner of Scattergrams. A tough admit for sure.

Thanks for posting this. I didn’t think about the OOS admit rate being propped up by the OOS legacy admits and athletes - yikes.
