UNC - Chapel Hill Fall 2015 Transfers

I’m sure a few others on here will be applying to UNC. Wanted to start this thread so we can all talk about it. I’ll post my stats, would like to see everyone else’s as well.

Here are mine:
Major: Computer Science
Associates in Science from an NC community college
CGPA: 3.9
EC: Part of my CC Math team. Did a few Math competitions.

UNC is my number one priority so I desperately hope I get in.

Hello everyone. I am an out of state student in a New Jersey community college. I know as an out of state student my chances are slim but I decided I needed to take a shot at UNC.

Major: Chemistry
Associates in Science in Chemistry
CGPA: 3.75
EC: work 25 hours per week, phi theta kappa member, national chemistry week adviser.

My decision depends on my other college responses and the amount of credits accepted by each school. However, all things equal I would most likely choose UNC over my other schools. I know the odds are perhaps less than favorable for me, but I hope the best for all of you, and may good fortunes befall us all.
Cheers!

Hey guys!

In-state/CC student

Major: Political Science
54 credits
College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: 2.9/3.5
EC’s: Working ~25 hours per week (was promoted about a year ago), sports blog, volunteering, Phi Theta Kappa, 3x Presidents list, FBLA in HS.

I have two recommendations, one from a UNC grad who was my communications professor, she’s also one of the heads of the communication dept at my CC. The other is from a history teacher I had twice, she’s the chair of the history dept at my CC. I feel like my UNC essay did a good job of relating back to my major choice as well.

Good luck to all of you!

@boilerup4purdue‌ , your chances look good to me. Not sure if all of your credits will transfer though given your OOS CC but I’m no expert on that.

One of my teachers E-mailed me "Is it okay if I don’t do the ranking part of the letter of recommendation? " I said…“sure… that is fine.” Not sure what she meant by that but whatever, I have at least one really good letter of recommendation.

@strandedinhell thanks, I’m hoping so. I don’t believe my Organic Chemistry professor filled out the ranking part of the rec either; in fact, she never even mentioned it as it was all through the common app. Anyway good luck my friend. Best wishes.

So I submitted my app and got my ConnectCarolina set up, but its saying it doesn’t have my transcripts (both HS and college) that I sent out roughly a month ago. Anyone else having this problem?

@NCXfer‌ You can call UNC admission and ask if your documents are received. Usually they are already received but just need some time to be linked to your profile. I called UNC once and within one week all my documents are linked. Hope this can help.

When all required application items are received, does your to do list on connect Carolina become empty? That’s what happened with mine at least.

Yes I believe so @boilerup4purdue

It took some time (one week) for mine to get updated and I sent them online. I sent in my UNC college transcript for a summer course FROM UNC to UNC (I know!) and it took 4-5 days to get updated.

It’s still showing they haven’t received my Highschool transcript. I’ll have to call them Monday or Tuesday.

Applying from New Jersey Community College, UNC is my dream school so I’m hoping for the best.

Major: Economics
Associates in Business Admin
CGPA: 3.76 (some Honors Credits)
EC: Varsity Athlete, Rep for Student Athletic Committee, Student Ambassador, VP of Business Club, VP of Honors Association, Volunteer Club, Organized community food drive for local food bank, Phi Theta Kappa.

Have a letter from one of the board members of the business department at my CC, and would like to think my essay is strong! Good luck to all!

Looking good @ccmac201‌ . UNC my dream school as well. Wouldn’t think I’d have a chance in Hell two years from now.

Someone chance me?

My Stats:
Current college: California Polytechnic (Cal Poly)
College/ Major Applying to: Economics
Entering as: Sophomore
HS GPA UW: 3.74
HS GPA Weighted: 4.0
College GPA: 3.7
SAT: 2230

Quarter 1 Courses:
Public Speaking
Statistics
Customs and Culture:

Current Courses:
Calc 1
Psychology
Survey of Economics
English: Argumentative Writing

Extracurriculars: Horse Polo, Dorm President, Official Photographer for Cal Poly Surf Team, Taught orphans in Costa Rica lacrosse, Went to Guatemala for a reforestation project, Started a non-profit in HS, Tech internships during high school.

Essay: I realized that my current business major was to specific. Cal Poly is very specialized and does not have a good program for the arts. Applying to transfer so I can study film as well as economics.

Recommendations: Both from professors that I have a good relationships with. I go over to one of my professors house sometimes over the weekend for her to read my essays.

Does anyone know where to look on ConnectCarolina to see if they have received my transcript?

Edit: I found it under “To Do Items.”

Hey everybody!
Out of state, big ACC State School
International Studies and History Major
College GPA: 3.856

EC’s: Honors College, History Honor Society, Poli Sci Honor society, Member of a fraternity, Involved with a couple clubs and some service opportunities.
I have a couple recommendations, 1 that I think is pretty solid.
Do you think out of state will be a big obstacle?
Thanks for any feedback, and good luck to y’all!

So like most of you I’m in the final semester of getting my associate’s degree. If we do get admitted will it be depending on my result in these courses as well?

@strandedinhell yes your admission will definitely be contingent upon your performance this semester however, so long as things don’t go monumentally wrong you will certainly be fine.

@boilerup4purdue‌ Oh okay. I should be good. I just want to get my decision! I’m really nervous about it tbh

I had no idea that out of state would matter so much.

@southerngent out of state doesn’t matter for transfers apparently. I think you have a good shot. Good luck!

Also, ConnectCarolina says I have no to-do’s anymore, yay.
