UNC Chapel Hill In-State or UVA OOS

I was recently accepted into UVA OOS and am expecting to get accepted into UNC Chapel Hill, considering odds of getting in are much higher for those living in-state. I’m planning on applying for either of their business programs (Kenan-Flagler vs McIntire) and I am wondering which one I should choose to pursue.

I am mostly concerned with the differences in each business program and whether UVA is worth an extra $40,000/yr.

My county in NC, starting with my graduating class, has partnered with Say Yes to Education, meaning that UNC would cost a total of around $11,000/yr.

Which would you choose and why?

Thanks!

$40,000 extra a year? UNC hands down.

UNC of course UVA may be slightly more prestigious but the difference is so marginal it is definitely not worth the extra 40 k

UNC definitely. I have a kid who graduated from UVa and loved it. But we were instate. We would not have been willing to pay more for UNC out of state. You are lucky to have UNC at such a wonderful cost.

UVa is great, but unless your family is made of money it is not worth spending $160,000 over UNC.

There is a negligible difference between the schools. I’m not a big ranking person but in the USNWR ranking UVa 26 is and UNC is 30. And both of the undergraduate b-schools are ranked in the top 10 (UVa 5 and UNC 7) so basically the two schools are equals.

UNC, definitely.

If you can get into both schools then you should be able to figure out the answer. It’s not hard.

UNC. $160,000 is a great deal of money and the difference in quality is negligible.

I’d choose UNC without question, and save the money for grad B-school.

In term’s of the education, it’s six of one, half dozen of the other. Go with the better VALUE: UNC.

(Unless $40,000 is just petty cash for your folks and you think you’d benefit by going to school in another state.)

This is one of the rare CC threads where virtually everyone is in agreement!

If it were UNC in-state vs. Duke or HYP at full price, probably 2/3 of CC would recommend UNC. UNC over UVA OOS is a no-brainer.

And it’s unanimous: UNC CH!

Since you seem to be concerned about prestige, UVA is only ranked one spot higher than UNC by USNews for undergrad business

UNC all the way. I’m not even sure if UVA is a better school; in fact, I’d give the edge to UNC in the academic department.

UNC definitely seems like the better option for you… I’m in the same situation, deciding between both schools yet they’re both OOS for me so I am taking money out of my deciding factors… I have no idea what to do
