UNC Chapel Hill (long, but pls read and offer your 2cents)

I’m wondering if anyone could help me figure out my chances of getting into UNC as a sophomore. This gets a bit complicated.

I’ll have 30 semester hours when I apply. They are as follows:

UNC

The Black Experience A-

I took that class online. UNC offers courses for part-time student without having to be accepted as a full-time student.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

American Federal Government B

Introduction to Sociology A

English I A

English II A

Fundamentals of Speech W

Fundamentals of Speech A

Introduction to Psychology A

US History from 1877 B

Humanities I A

Humanities II A

I’m just finishing four years in the military.

My high school GPA was awful. From memory, it had to be a 2.7 or 2.8. I was a bad student. I make attempt to qualify this in my essay, which is pretty strong.

Basically explaining how I’ve changed in the five years since I’ve graduated. I travelled the world, then joined the military, got back into school and excelled.

The application says you need to have at least “30 transferable semester hours… with at least six hours in each of the following disciplines: English, math, social science, natural science, and foreign language.”

Obviously, if you look at the courses I’ve taken, I don’t meet these minimum requirements. However, when I wrote them about that a year ago, the response was they review each person through a “holistic admissions process,” and would take into account everything I have done.

Just wondering what you think. Should I bother?

Stats:

NC Resident: Yes

College GPA: 3.77 (30 semester hours)

SAT: This is being waived by UNC, because of my age.

Essay: Strong
