UNC Chapel Hill Transfer

I'm currently a freshman at Santa Monica College and I really want to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill. My GPA is kinda bad this first semester because I'm adjusting to college. It's like a 3.4. My major would be in the College of Arts and Sciences and i'd be transferring fall 09 to be a sophomore.
My high school record is great. My college extracurriculars are great.
I checked the admissions website and the average GPA for sophomore transfers was around 3.4. By next semester my grades will definitely be higher so do you think I have a shot?

You're out of state so a 3.4 probably won't cut it. Also, UNC preferences junior transfers.

Well I won't have a 3.4 because the second semester will average out and it'll definitely be higher. Thanks for your honesty though. (not being sarcastic)
Where does it say that out of state transfers have to have a higher GPA than in state? I think that's so unfair of them. First out of states have to pay a ton more in tuition and now they have to have higher GPAs.
How do you know they prefer junior transfers?

yeah but it's a public school. and it's true, they prefer juniors

i'm an out of state at UNC right now and I'm thinking of xfering out for that very reason. if you come here you will find that practically everything is IN STATE or OUT OF STATE. I understand it's a public school but the school treats in state kids like gods. and the majority of them are hardly that. lol.

but yes. it is a state school so that is what you get. GO PRIVATE.

but don't you become an in-state student after 1 year? so one would only have to pay the out of state costs for one year.

you can't as blithely as you have done assume that you are going to get better than a 3.4 at your current school...this isnt hs, they just dont hand out 4.0s anymore...you have no idea how many people come on here saying "but I know I'll get a 3.8-40 next semester!" usually the kids who can get it do get it

also, your second semester grades will not be seen if your applying for fall 09

good luck

"but don't you become an in-state student after 1 year? so one would only have to pay the out of state costs for one year"

^^ is that true?

Out of state and in-state transfers do NOT mean anything. UNC-Chapel Hill doesnt use residency when considers transfers. Residency ONLY determines tuition. You have a decent shot.

chjon, I also find it funny you think Carolina runs on an in-state out-of-state basis. I transferred from the College of Charleston my sophomore year and Im loving Carolina and the program they have set up for transfers to meet each other is super :)

Why did you leave the great cofc?

Because I had the opportunity to become a Tar Heel and you don't pass that opportunity up. CofC was great though. I didn't transfer because I was unhappy at CofC, but the school I was applying too had been my #1 school. CofC being a few minutes from the beach is awesome. Hello Nightlife!

Go Heels!

This is my last semester at Miami Dade College and I really want to transfer to UF after I get my AA degree in accounting. I currently have a 3.93 overall and a 4.0 preprofessional gpa for accounting.
Do i have a chance on transferring to the Fisher School of Accounting at UF?
