UNC Chapel Hill, UCLA, Stanford - Chance me

Hey! I'm a rising senior from California. I want to apply to a lot of schools (HYP, Vanderbilt, UCSB, USC, Wake Forest, Pepperdine, and my safety school -SDSU-) but my top three are UNC Chapel Hill, UCLA, and Stanford. I've decided that I'm going to apply SCEA to Stanford and EA to UNC. I would like to know what you guys think of my chances at my top three schools mainly, but my other schools as well. My stats are as follows:

ACT: 31 {33 English 30 Math 33 Writing 28 Science 8 Essay} (taking one more time for a 33+)
SAT II: 620 in Biology, and 610 in Math II (Not s o good but I plan on retaking them after actually studying and I expect high 700's in both)
UW GPA: 3.98 (I've only ever gotten one B, every other grade has been A/A+)
W GPA: 4.35 (I have taken the most advanced classes I've been offered
Rank: My school does not rank
State: CA
School Type: I go to a very well known charter school
Hook: I'm first generation! (My mother has an associates degree from a CC but most colleges [I've looked!] still consider me first generation)

Extra Curricular's: Four years of varsity softball (captain my junior year and most likely my senior year as well), two years of JV volleyball (next year I'll be on varsity), three years of ASB, four years of Model United Nations (I started in a leadership position last year and I'll be in one next year), I play competitive travel softball throughout the year, and I'm going into my sixth year as a member of a local mother/daughter philanthropic organization where I have racked up 1000+ community service hours and helped raise $100,000+ for local charities. I also took guitar and singing lessons for two years before stopping to pursue softball.

Special Awards: I got National Merit Scholar Commendation (they allow you to send your scores and information to two schools and I chose UNC and USC), I was nominated for the Harvard Prize book at my school (which is basically like saying you would be ranked #1 if we ranked), I received the Gordon Fellow's leadership in Engineering award at UCSD, and I have received the California's legislatures highest volunteer hours in my grade level three times through the mother/daughter organization I'm a part of.

Summer Activities: Last year I participated in COSMOS at UCSD, and every summer I go to Hume Lake Christian Camp.

Recommendations: I'm sure I'll get excellent letter of rec's.

Essays: I predict my essay's will be excellent, I'm starting know and working with a paid college advisor on them.

I don't think I missed anything! Thank you for your time and I appreciate your honesty!

Is it to early to bump? I just really want some feedback…

Oops! I forgot that I’m a white female with a family income $150,000>

Hey! I went to COSMOS at UCSD last summer too! What cluster? I was cluster 7. You have really good EC’s but those scores will be something you have got to pull up before you apply. Do you have a leadership position in the mother/daughter philanthropic organization? $100,000 is definitely a lot to rack up, but I was just curious. Any leadership position gives you a better chance at some place like Stanford. What do you plan to major in? I think you have a really great chance at all of those schools if you can pull up your scores. Good luck and chance back?

If you do get your SAT II’s to 700’s then I think it’s likely UCLA will admit you. I don’t know about UNC CH though since its difficult for out of state students to get in.

Good stats but roll of the dice like everyone else

Just curious as to why you want to apply to UNC?

@ shubhijain I was in Cluster 5! Yeah I’m definitely taking the ACT again, and this time I’m going to study so I think I could raise it maybe 2 or even 3 points. My SAT scores will be super easy to raise if I just study for them this summer. Unfortunately there are no leadership positions in the mother/daughter philanthropic organization so that’s a no go but I’ll see if I can find somewhere else to show my leadership skills.

@ LimitlessProd Well both of my parents are from North Carolina so I was basically born a Tarheel- I bleed Carolina blue. Other than that-- it’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a school: Elite academics, extremely competitive athletics, a beautiful BIG campus, extremely spirited student body, active greek life, and I have family nearby. I don’t know what else it is but something makes me obsessed with this school. I would sell my soul for acceptance! (Although it would break my father’s heart and my parents bank account)

I would say get your ACT/SAT II up (which you’ve already been working on) and your’re good to go. You seem like a pretty well rounded person, which is great, but the only thing is that from your stats I can’t really tell what you’re really passionate about, what you envision your purpose in life to be. Just remember that while being well rounded is a great plus, the Ivies (and the like) want someone who really stands out -and while your grades and test scores are great, just remember to emphasize who YOU are, as a person.

Something big I left off is that I won a local pageant (one I competed in 3 times before I won). I think it;s important because I want to end up working as a politician or an ambassador for the United Nations. Doing the pageant, Model United Nations, and ASB all tie into my want to do something where I get the opportunity to represent something bigger than myself and give me the chance to potentially make a difference in the world. I am definitely going to write an essay on this.

My other essay might be about my support system and how I have a family that has struggled to get where they are. My dad’s dad was abusive, my grandmother didn’t even have an eighth grade education, and my father had to get a job when he was fourteen to support his family and barely graduated high school. I want to write about how they were crucial to my success because they wanted everything for me and constantly believed in me.

Bump. Please chance me!

Bump!

10char

Decent chances at UNC and Stanford, higher if you get your act up to 34+ and sat ii scores to 700+.

Also first generation won’t help you too much, it is really just a tipping factor.

I see. I’m from NC and I bleed Tarheel blue as well haha

As for your admission, I would say that as an OOS student, you have a great chance. Can’t guarantee anything, though.

Bump.
10char

Last bump. I’m kind of desperate for opinions. ANY advice/suggestions/help is welcomed with open arms.

did you just say that doing a pageant helped you present something bigger than yourself

Represent- but yes I did.

What a lot of people don’t realize is that pageants are very community service oriented. Pageant night might be about yourself but once you when you spend the entire next year representing your city/county/state/country. People don’t know you by your name but by your title, which is who your representing. You spend a lot of time working with local charities and promoting various causes.

Okay… I guess I lied. Last bump I almost promise!!!
