UNC Chapel Hill vs. William & Mary?

So I already sent in my deposit to WM and have been getting pretty excited about going to WM in the fall. Today, however, UNC accepted me off of the wait list. This definitely gives me something to consider...

How do WM and UNC compare in their Business programs, greek life and general atmosphere?

just curious - what state are you located in?

I’m from NY, so I am out of state for both schools

If I go to UNC I will have a lot of friends going to Duke, do the students from the two schools mingle at all?

^ Not especially. Both are rather insular.

But you certainly can mix if you want: there is a free (and usually near-empty) bus that runs between the two campuses, and downtown Durham is a great place to hang out.

Your friends will probably also want to come to Chapel Hill on some nights and to pick up UNC Chapel Hill girls.

So you certainly can keep up with your buddies.

They are both great public schools, but WM has a smaller student body (6,000 undergrads vs. 18,000 undergrads) and I think UNC’s business program is stronger.

Have you visited?

I have heard that William and Mary is more into the greek scene and that the surrounding area isn’t so much fun. I have also heard that the classes are wonderful and intellectual.

From what I’ve heard from one of my best friends who graduated there a year ago, William and Mary is more country club and snooty. But people who go there love it. Honestly, I have no clue and I’ve never visited. Did you visit? What’s the cost difference? Do you know what you’re interested in? Carolina is higher ranked in business.

You should be asking yourself what is most important to you and look at it objectively. And, you know what, both are excellent schools and you shouldn’t regret choosing either. You might want it to just come down to cost.

How important are big-time sports to you?
