do you guys think the first wave will start tomorrow? i think that’s when people started getting off last year.

I estimated it would start today, but many of us have heard back from the AO saying they’re not currently letting any waitlist students in since the class is filled.

Anyone know what time of day waitlist notifications are sent out? Assume it’s like reg admissions decision with a 4pm timeline.

Right now they aren’t taking anyone from the waitlist. Seems like they may have an overbooked class.
yeah I called too and they told me they haven’t extended any offers yet and have had a higher yield this year than anticipated. this week is waitlist week so hopefully a wave will come soon after some students get off a waitlist and decide to unenroll from UNC

To be honest, I don’t think UNC will send out anything until the 4th or 5th week of May, to give them time to estimate the numbers. I think they probably have the first round ready and are just waiting for people to unenroll.

Are you saying they are waiting for kids to decline the waitlist offer since they’ve already applied to other schools?
I think they mean that there may be some students who committed to UNC but were on the waitlist at other schools. Some will get off the waitlist at a school that they prefer over UNC and then decline the UNC spot. That would open up a spot to be taken by someone on the UNC waitlist. Because the UNC yield sounds like it was high, there will be very few spots for waitlisted students to take. It’s possible that UNC is overenrolled.

No, I just estimated the dates based off of the previous year’s dates. I estimated them before finding out that they weren’t letting waitlisted students until after late May.
they told me that they won’t be making any waitlist decisions until late may or June

Did they overbook OOS? If their numbers are too high they could get fined again.
I don’t think anyone but UNC knows. But with them very slow on the waitlist, I would think they are pretty full.
They can be fined?? I didn’t know that, but I’ve seen a lot of UC schools under-accept and put more people on the waitlist … I wonder if UNC school systems would do that.
UNC has a legal cap on OOS students. If they enroll more than the 18% cap they can be fined. In the past they have been fined $1 million.
