UNC is so much better. UNC has a lot of fun stuff on campus and in the area--Chapel Hill is a great place and there are several other universities in the area. the weather and area are beautiful. It's a GREAT school.

My son considers anything below an 'A' the same as failure and so takes all extra steps in each class ie reads each book on the suggested lists as well as required list [don't know where he got this from :) ].

Do you know - How tough academically is UNC? I am hoping that it is not a con't of his HS.

My wife and I both have graduate degrees from Carolina so I would recommend UNC. It's a great place to get an education. Large but not overwhelming. Great facilities. Friendly students. A committment to diversity which includes with the Robertson, Pogue, and Moorehead Scholarships some of the brightest and most interesting students in the country. I enjoyed my years there. Our son would have gone had he not be accepted to film school at USC.

UNC is a wonderful place to grow into a young adult.

i don't know about cali kids fitting in at unc. depends on the "cali kid." remember, 82% of students at UNC are north carolina residents. if southern people turn you off, or you would like a geographically diverse student body, look elsewhere.

OK North Carolina is not Southern California, but then again Northern California is not Southern California. Heck I grew up in NJ, and adopted very nicely to NC as a Yankee/Jewish/beatnik/commie/radical after awhile at a time when they were much closer to the bad old days than now.
