Hi,
I’m an out of state student and UNC is the college that i wanted to go to since I was in 7th grade, and I just finished sophomore year.
My weighted Gpa is 4.1 and my unweighted is 3.8 and ( I know That my weighted is a little bit low because I didn’t take any AP classes freshman and sophomore year)
Next year I’m taking 4 AP classes ( AP chemistry, AP world history, AP Government, AP English)
Senior year I’m planning to take 5 AP’s
( AP physics, AP Bio, AP Calculus BC, AP English , AP Music Theory)
I’m planning to take the SAT in March or April 2016, and I’m shooting for a 2350 or something around That and the reason is in starting to take rigorous SAT classes starting next week.
I’m part of 9 clubs and I have around 59 volunteer hours and I played 3 sports freshman year and 1 sophomore year.
I wanted to see if I have any chances and if u guys could help me and tell me anything I need to know. I would appriciate anything.
Thank you
( also I know that OOS acceptance for UNC is very hard )
Hey! It’s kinda hard to judge this since you just finished your sophomore year and a lot will change by next year, but I will try to help! I’m a rising senior and have read every article and statistic out there about UNC and it is definitely my dream school as well. It’s very important to Chapel Hill that you are challenging yourself and are on an upward trend with your GPA so if you could manage to get straight A’s this year or maybe 1 B and get your GPA up to the 4.5 area then I think that would help you immensely. It would help more if we knew your actual SAT score because of course we all are shooting for 2350’s but it’s nearly impossible to do so if you can get that high then that’s amazing but the reality might be completely different. Have you ever at least taken the PSAT? Also, I would suggest getting leadership roles in a few clubs to show what you’re devoted to. OOS is extremely competitive and everybody will have great scores, perfect GPA’s and extracurriculars. What they’re searching for is people who show passion and commitment to a specific area. Make sure the clubs you’re in, the classes you take, and volunteering you do reflect your interests and passion. I hope this helps somewhat! I’m in state so I know more about in state admissions but I just thought I’d offer you some advice as I wish somebody had told me this last year. Best of luck!
