Considering UNC Charlotte for mechanical engineering. Involved in racing and am interested in their motorsports engineering program but I'm not sure about being so specific at the undergrad level. This would be more than a safety school academically but they take about 10% out of state, which I am. Wondering many things! Is it better to be top in your class (being optimistic) and make the needed network connections or get the best mechanical undergrad program and build from there? Your thoughts welcome!

How certain are you that you want to work in motorsports? If that is your dream career, then perhaps the connections make UNCC worthwhile. But if like most HS students you have had insufficient exposure to career possibilities and therefore have doubts about what you want to do, then you may be better served by going to a school whose ME program attracts a greater number and variety of employers.
