My son is seriously considering UNC-Charlotte. I am pretty concerned with some of the feedback I am getting about the overall academic experience provided there. I've had a handful of people state that it's not a real strong academic school. I've also researched college prowler.com and another college review site with some of the same concerns. I would appreciate opinions from others living in NC about UNCC's reputation. Thanks!

I have heard that it is growing significantly, that there has been a great deal of investment, and that the academics are improving. We have a family friend who will be graduating in the spring with a business degree who is very positive about her choice…and she already has a job…which today is a big deal.

Thanks. Appreciate the positives because my son is seriously considering UNCC.

My son is a junior computer science major there. There are pros and cons to the school but like most other schools in NC. He has found looking for the best professors on Ratemyprofessor.com is worth the time. Sometimes he has had terrible professors that make the classes lousy but has had good teachers also. We did look at the course requirements in computer science and found they were MUCH better than many other schools. He actually takes a large variety of classes in his major unlike other NC schools that don’t have good CS faculty so they require all these science classes to fill the major requirements instead of computer science classes. I would say really look into what he wants to major in and compare it to other schools and talk to someone who has a job in that field and ask them what types of classes are helpful when they go to get a job. Overall, he likes it. He is a self-learner and that comes in handy when he gets a bad professor that doesn’t teach very well and he is stuck learning the stuff on his own. If he wasn’t a self-learner, he would be struggling more.
