Reflection: Overall, I was very disappointed with the decision as UNC has always been my dream school. I thought I had a solid chance of getting admitted or at least deferred.
Strengths: ECs with lots of leadership, above average ACT, Rigorous Courseload (not all classes listed here)
Weaknesses: Few B’s/GPA, No Work Experience
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I know that 70% of OOS applicants were males, so that put me at a disadvantage. Also, they only accepted 11% of EA OOS applicants, average ACT of 32. Recruited athletes were factored into these stats though, so actual acceptance percent is lower and ACT is higher. Before anyone comes after me, my college counselor found this information through a connection in UNC admissions office.
General Comments: To start, I wrote this post 100% off of what I sent to UNC. Honestly, I was shocked to know I didn’t even get deferred; UNC has been my dream school ever since I was born in Raleigh, and it really sucked getting that rejection letter. Especially when I found out that a cross-town acquaintance got in (OOS, mind you) with a 28 ACT no hooks. Unsure about the rest of her profile besides a 3.7 UW GPA at a weaker school than my own, but those stats seem too low to be correct. I may be somewhat biased in my opinions, however.
In the end, congrats to all who get to call UNC home! If you didn’t get accepted, it just wasn’t meant to be, and I hope you find the right fit for next year.
