Hey fellow acceptees! Thought I’d start this so we can meet each other and share in our excitement about getting accepted to Chapel Hill, one of the most difficult schools to get into in the country.
Congratulations friends!

Do you know when Excel Carolina, scholarship day, and honors college information get sent out?
Also, I have my plan under admission as Political Science. I wonder if I can change that? I really do not want to do Political Science anymore. Any info for that?
@waddups You can definitely change that.
@waddups You can totally change major, both now and when you get to chapel hill. Most dont declare a major til sophomore year, if i’m not mistaken
How many acceptees are invited to scholarship day? Is their a preference for in-state like there is in regular admissions? Thanks
I think we should hear on honors programs in the next few days to a week, if not sooner.
Hi I’m an international student from China and I got accepted am I eligible for honors programs or scholarship?
My sister was accepted on 1/30/14 and got her Excel@Carolina email on 2/4/14. She was OOS.
Who is from OOS? And where are you from? I’m from the Fort Lauderdale, Florida area.
@JLeeC37 I’m from Jacksonville, Florida!
@ImporTan I’m pretty sure that there is a significant difference between IS and OOS scholarship offers. I vaguely remember from my visit to UNC that there are somewhere around 100 scholarships available for IS students and only about 15 for OOS. So us OOS students will most likely have to pay the full tuition price…
@chromodynamics How do we change our major now? Do not mean to bother you, just curious/worried lol
@waddups call Admissions. They are the only folks with an answer that you can be sure is accurate. You are an admitted student…use the tools and resources provided…and congrats.
@waddups I got a scholarship offer emailed to me the day after EA decisions came out. I think they’re rolling through February but I don’t know that for sure. Best of luck and congrats to everyone who got in.
Here is what I know about Scholarship Day and the Merit Scholarships from my personal in-state experience:
In 2014, my son was accepted Early Action and within a day we gratefully received an email notification regarding Scholarship Day. He attended the day and was awarded a scholarship many weeks later. He opted for another university offering more money.
Now it’s 2016, my daughter applied Early Action, was accepted Thursday and then Friday received an email that she was a “Carolina Scholar” @ $9,000/yr. I was apprehensive that this was a mistake and called UNC to clarify. They decided to do it differently this year. No Scholarship Day.
Still in utter disbelief, I went to UNC’s website to again clarify. And this is what I found:
Will I receive any merit scholarships?
Each year, we award a select number of incoming first-year students with merit scholarships. Early Action applicants who have been awarded a merit scholarship will receive an email within a week of their admission decision.
I wanted to write here today because I, like all of you, have been pouring over the posts on CC to see the timeline from previous years. I have been a very active reader for many years, but never posted until now. I know the feeling of desperation for information.
So in summary (and only from personal experience):
Previous years? UNC had a Scholarship Day. This year? They are “doing it a different way.”
Good luck to all, I truly understand and relate to how stressful this entire process can be!
Did anyone receive an invitation to honors Carolina yet? or Excel@Carolina?
yes to excel
Is it safe to assume that if I received a merit scholarship that I will also be invited to the honors program?
If i’m OOS should I just accept that I will likely not receive a scholarship or admission to the honors program?
