Decision: Accepted

Objective:
SAT- 2250
Unweighted- 3.91
Weighted- 5.29
Rank- top 5 percentile
AP Scores- Calculus AB (5), Calculus BC (5), World History (5), APES (4), APUSH (4), Macroeconomics (4), Statistics (4), English III (3)
Senior year courseload- AP Gov Pol, IB Further Math, Honors Anatomy, AP English IV, AP Psychology, AP Chinese 5, AP Physics I
Major awards- nothing of note

Subjective:
Extracurricular- Debate Club, TSA, soccer
Job/Work experience- Cashier at Harris Teeter for one summer, SAT tutor
Volunteer- Key Club (1 year only), church volunteering, teacher assistant
Essays- I wouldn’t say they are excellent but definitely not bad essays. I spent couple hours writing/revising them.
Teacher recommendations- Both teachers I’ve had for two years and know me well. I’m sure they wrote good things about me.
Counselor recommendation- Had a good senior interview. I’m assuming it was good.
State- North Carolina
School type- Magnet
Ethnicity- Chinese
Gender- Male

Reasons I think I got in- My grades and test scores definitely helped the most. Recommendation letters also helped a lot. My extracurricular activities are average at best compared to many of my peers and my essays were fairly well written. My best advice for getting accepted is to maintain academic excellence and to score high on ACT or SAT (i spent a whole lot preparing for the latter)

Counselor Recommendations: IDK
Teacher Recommendations: IDK
State : Maryland
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Black
Gender : Female
Hooks: URM, legacy…I have a twin lol? she also got in btw

Reasons I think I got in: first of all id like to say that I cant believe that i’m actually making a comment on college confidential about getting ACCEPTED to a very selective college. I always thought that I was way too “normal” and that my standardized test scores were just way too subpar to get a second look from UNC admissions. Especially since im OOS. If there’s anyone on here in the future who doesn’t have a 2000+ sat, 30+ act, 700s on 10 subject tests, all 5s in all the math/science APs, 10 gazillion ECs of all sorts AND an internship at the local science giant-----DONT GIVE UP!!! You can totally hang with these guys on here. In response to the prompt, I probably got in thanks to the gpa, ec’s, maybe essays and lets face it-probably the hooks. I literally had the two most important hooks for an oos student.

Other schools: Accepted to George Mason, Hampton (HBCU in VA), Towson and waiting on UMD-CP

Yayyy I got in. well that’s just neat!

I got in out of state! When do they let you know about honors and stuff?

If it means anything I’ve also been admitted into Princeton, UMBC, and here!

wondering the same (and merit scholarships)! @Princetonian2020

The in-state vs. out-of-state factor cannot be overstated! Thrilled to get into Chapel Hill (in-state), kinda bummed to be deferred at UVA, but if my son lived in VA, we’d see the reverse, I’m sure (33 ACT, 2140 SAT, GPA 3.8/4.6.). These are pretty solid numbers for an in-state kid, but less-than-average for OOS. I heartily concur with the other folks singing the praises of a good in-state flagship!

deferred out of state! still excited to have a shot at getting in. does anyone know the percentage of students who were admitted/deferred/denied?
