The deadline for filing FAFSA and CSS Profiles is March 1, so I imagine that need-based aid decisions will not come out until after then.
If you look at the UNC website at http://studentaid.unc.edu/, it states as follows: “Notifications about aid awards will begin in March and continue through the spring. After you apply, visit your ConnectCarolina to check your application status. Once an award is posted, an email will be sent to your UNC e-mail account.”
FA awards start coming out in March. If you have any special circumstances, an initial award will be posted followed by a re-evaluation of your award after your supporting documents are reviewed.
I checked Connect Carolina on a hunch yesterday and my financial aid package was there. I’m assuming I’m a Carolina Covenant Scholar because my package amounted up to $23,602 with no loans. Just grants and work-study. Carolina did end up sending an email notifying me of my financial aid a few hours after I checked the connect.
I just submitted some supporting docs of my parents’ tax forms (i didnt do something right on fasfa), will I be re-reviewed because the financial aid package was not good.
No, I just didn’t do the IRS Tax Transcript DRT thing on FASFA, so I don’t think they had any verification for the info I submitted on the FASFA and CSS. I did the DRT thing today though and sent UNC an email.
We also need to send in the tax transcript thing (we ordered it), but that was requested by FA because of the letters I sent to them regarding a special situation. We were assigned a FA counselor and she explained to me exactly what she was going to do after she received the tax transcript. We received an initial package which has since been removed and in its place it says “in progress.” I already know we are being reconsidered because I spoke to the counselor. Have you spoken to anybody about being reconsidered or are you hoping they just do it on their own?
The tax transcript needs to be sent directly from the IRS, not FAFSA. If FA requested a tax transcript they would have sent the link on the “to do” list. It takes about 10 days for the transcript to be received in the mail and then it gets faxed to them.
You can correct your FAFSA if you think it is in error. After they receive the updated FAFSA they will likely take another look at your FA package, but I would also email them and let them.
@FKAtwigs I did! But when I go onto ConnectCarolina and see the item on my to-do list, I get an error message. Are you getting this too? Because I’m a tad nervous about that to be completely honest :((
@stargoat Yup, I got the message too. I did some snooping and apparently they’re not ready to start selling their laptops. I found instructions that you go to the CCI store and enter in your PID to purchase a laptop. Your PID identifies that you have a grant. However, when I entered it in and submitted, they displayed a message saying that they can’t start selling their laptops yet but that they will very soon. So we’re gonna have to wait a little. Might as well start looking for a roommate if you haven’t done so already.
Update: I increased a lot of my grades from junior year to senior year, but did get a C for the semester in IB Spanish V.
Let me know what you think!!
I am a senior at one of the top public high schools in North Carolina (so I’m in state). I am a student in the IB program. I will have completed 14 IB classes and 3 AP classes by the time I graduate. I did get 2 C’s my junior year; one in science and one in calculus. I’m very concerned that that will get my application thrown away. My GPA is a 4.58 weighted and 3.29 unweighted. My SAT scores are CR- 630 M- 650 W-700 totaling a composite score of 1980. I am president of our speech and debate team, coordinated a large debate tournament at my high school, and have been heavily involved in debate since my sophomore year. I also teach catechism at my local parish. I have done two internships for political campaigns, one for senate and one for mayor. This past summer, I spent a week in D.C. doing a program for women interested in political leadership. My selected major is Political Science, and I mentioned in my essay that I have an interest in my school’s student government and would like to run for congress when eligible.
