UNC, Duke, Davidson and WF (did not ultimately apply) were all selected when he took the SAT, so they went automatically. When he applied, he sent in his ACT scores as well.
Does anyone know how competitive it is to get into the Exel @ Carolina program?
I think legacy does matter. UNC sent my mom a letter that said we saw your son applied, and will look closely at his application to give him the best chance he can because we take pride in the Tar Heel family. I’m hoping to be a third generation Tar Heel like my brother though, so I may be reading to much into it.
to everyone asking about legacy, they said on the admissions blog that it does matter but only for OOS students. because there are so many UNC alumni living in NC, they can’t give consideration to everyone but they said they pay attention to OOS legacies. here’s a quote from the blog:
"Because we maintain close ties with our alumni and value their commitment to the University, we do ask about alumni ties on our application. For non-resident children of alumni (those whose mother, father, step-father, or step-mother attended Carolina), family ties to the University may be used in our final admission decision. Please note that legacy status cannot be derived from siblings, grandparents, or other extended family.
Family ties for the children of alumni within North Carolina are not considered in our final decisions. Since the number of alumni within the state is considerable and since the University is a state-supported institution, giving a significant advantage to their in-state children wouldn’t be fair to the other North Carolina taxpayers. However, the children of in-state alumni do fare very well in admission since they apply well-prepared to succeed at Carolina."
I’m instate and my parents got a letter talking about how they do consider legacy, even instate
Ultimately, legacy is considered more for an OOS rather than IS, because as an IS, you already have a better chance of getting in. UNC admits a lot more IS than OOS because, like mentioned above, UNC is a taxpayer school
Is there any precedent for decisions coming out in two weeks instead of three or is it historically always right before the end of the month?
The earliest decisions came out last year on January 28th (the last Wednesday of January). I doubt that it will be in 2 weeks especially with the amount of applications UNC received for EA.
Can anyone chance me?

Probably this question has been asked before: Does UNC defer people from EA?
oos acceptance rate?
@52balletvieta yes, they defer people during EA, and @james1998iq , the OOS acceptance rate last year was 19% http://admissions.unc.edu/apply/class-profile-2/
Does everyone have the Pay Bills/Manage Student Finances (on the Student Center) button and can access the Connect Carolina Payment page after clicking that?
@renegade23 Yes I can access that part of the portal too, but I’m betting it’s more of a feature that comes standard than it is any measure of admittance status. UVA’s portal has some similar kinks.
@renegade23 yes I can access it, but there is no activity on the account
@renegade23 yes I can access it but I read about something similar on the class of 2019 thread and tried it weeks ago and nothing happened. Now it brings me to the page you describe…is this a good sign I wonder?
It actually says on that payment page under my account “We are unable to load current activity at this time, however you are still able to make payments on your account.” I hope this is a positive sign…
@lvmjac1 can you expand on the c/o 2019 thing?
