@ateena, yes i believe all the merit scholarship candidates have been notified.
@prep4col The Granville Towers packet was interesting. My son thought the 1 bedroom/ 1 bath was the way to go. $22K a year. :)) In all seriousness though, my son won’t be attending UNC so I haven’t looked into the housing situation, but it was mentioned during the info session that there is not on-campus housing available for all four years so most end up renting at these off-campus apartments sophomore year. Many nice options in the area (and pricey). When I went on to Granville Towers site, seems they had sold out many of the different floor plans so it seems this is something that needs to get done early for next year.
There is plenty of housing for students at Chapel Hill for four years. Granville really is a dorm, just ran by the university rather than owned. Meal plans are required as part of living there and are included in the rent. When all is said and done, they are a similar cost as other dorms. Freshman are allowed to live there. Great location, just the issue of most freshmen living on south campus so where do you get the best first year experience. It is very close to Greek life and Franklin Street, but further from most freshmen. The $22K apartment does seem way overpriced compared to other off campus housing, but it appears to be sold out. Granville does fill up early so, anyone wanting it should sign up, otherwise freshmen will be in the university dorms on south campus.
Oh plenty of on campus housing. My son will be a Junior next year and he got housing with no problem.
Same with my daughter- she will be a junior and had no problem getting housing.
I was accepted, but other than receiving the Granville Towers info and the gap year email, nothing. I am OOS with high stats and checked the box for Kenan-Flagler preferred admission but didn’t receive the Excel email nor have I heard anything otherwise, which based on others’ posts appears to mean “no.” Really love Chapel Hill but isn’t going to be an option for me without a preferred admit.
First-year housing will not be limited to south campus next year. See http://housing.unc.edu/future-residents/first-year-students. Some of the first-year dorms are on north campus. In addition there are living-learning dorms that first-years can apply for. It is still likely that most first-years will be on south because those dorms have more rooms. South is further from many classrooms but close to advising, food, workout facilities, IM fields. Granville Towers is privately owned, not operated by the university but approved for first-years by the university. It has its own food service. Many students who are planning to pledge a fraternity or sorority choose Granville because of its proximity to the Greek houses.
Has any OOS admitted student been notified of any merit scholarships? I received Honors Carolina and UNC is one of my top choices, but OOS tuition is too expensive… I’d need a merit scholarship, at least a partial one, to be able to attend. Unfortunately, I didn’t qualify for any financial aid except for loans. Any advice/insight would be helpful
No merit either @sirhcgled just an OSSA student grant for $6700 per year.
@sirhcgled I’m an OOS admitted student, and I’m a finalist for the Chancellor’s Science Scholarship. I still have to go to selection day first though.
For those still waiting, DD (OOS) just got acceptance packet today. Assume no merit, which will make attendance less desirable than other schools.
Still waiting for acceptance packet here for my OOS daughter. She has only received email notification.
We are also waiting to hear about Roberston Scholars Program and hope to hear soon about that.
Sons in state packet arrived today !
just got financial aid! is there any way to appeal to recieve more grants?
I think you can always appeal, but you may not get anything. I would call Financial Aid and ask them if there is an appeal process and how do you find it?
Anyone know when Robertson Scholars decisions come out?
Friday
@collegemomjam you can request a professional review if there are new financial circumstances that could not be reflected on your FASFA. You can Google how to go about this. My daughter still hasn’t received her welcome packet in the mail.
Nothing here yet. But I get a solicitation from the alumni association almost every week so they are definitely not understaffed in that department
And the packet came today! With a “Take a Selfie” cardboard frame that says #UNC20 Gotta love it!
