UNC Class of 2022 EA Discussion Thread

Does anyone know of a way to submit fall semester grades for senior year, or awards won since the EA application was submitted? I don’t see any way to do that on the Connect Carolina profile.

@UTSquared Not necessary unless you’re deferred EA

@minimango Excel@Carolina does state that it is possible but usually super duper rare that one qualifies for two opportunities. @Carolinadad Unfortunately no, they’ll only consider you for what you’ve marked. You do have the option of changing it but I’m not sure whether or not it’s too late for CSS since emails have already come out.

Thanks, those would have helped so I wanted to make sure they saw them. I guess they will if they decide to defer.

anyone have an idea when the decisions will be posted? Also, does UNC send out an email telling us that our decisions were posted or do they update the portal first. Do they all come out at the same time, or is it in batches over a few days like Michigan??

They will send out an email the day before decisions are released…with directions on when and how to view them. In previous years all decisions were released at the same time.

If I haven’t received an invitation for any of the special Carolina programs, do I essentially not have much a chance for admission being OOS?

@TGBuckeye Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only invitation that has come out is for finalists for the CSS Program which was for aspiring PHD researchers. But yes, thousands of OOS kids apply every year, but only so many get accepted since UNC is legally permitted to have no more than 18% of the student body be OOS. I think it’s Ivy League acceptance percentage, actually… I know a few people that got into Harvard and Stanford but actually got rejected from Chapel Hill :frowning:

@Momto4kids, I sent a text to my daughter to see if she could recall the details from last year. She said she selected her list of three Excel opportunities as part of the EA application process and then was only invited to complete the essay prompts for the CSS. She did not recall it saying she was a semifinalist when she was notified about the essay prompts so maybe that has changed. I wish you good luck both on admissions and being invited to selection weekend.

@TGBuckeye same situation here, lets hope theres still a chance.

When he called to ask just that, my son was told by admissions that they don’t look at senior year grades unless and until you are admitted

Mid year grades are self-reported in the portal in early Feb. if a student is accepted or deferred instead of using the common application mid-year report. Students get an email with instructions and the deadline is soon after.

I just spent way too much time stalking the EA 2020 discussion thread… I’m so nervous for decision day!! I didn’t realize just how incredibly competitive admission is for OOS applicants.

@musicandscience: Generally, the chances for any OOS applicant to UNC-CH are somewhat problematic due to the highly competitive nature of OOS applications there: UNC-CH admits OOS applicants in numbers that are calculated not to exceed 18% of an entering freshman class. See “Undergraduate Admissions” on Page 2, here: http://www.admissions.unc.edu/files/2013/09/Admissions__Policy.pdf. As a further example of the difficulty for OOS students to be admitted to UNC-CH, the entering Class of 2021 had a 14% acceptance rate for OOS applicants: http://admissions.unc.edu/apply/class-profile-2/.

APP state released their decisions today even though they were expected on the 25th. Come on UNC!

@MayBIvyMomma It probably won’t be anytime sooner or earlier. Chapel Hill has had some pretty bad snow and they haven’t been at their offices since Tuesday. I wouldn’t be optimistic about it.

UNC’s admission office twitter account posted that the University will have suspended operations until the 19th at noon, and will update regarding campus operations, so I doubt we’ll find out anything until the very end of January. My guess is that they might release decisions next Friday (the 26th), but I’m just hopeful. Good luck to everyone!

i’m still hoping today is the day

Does anyone else connect carolina say under the todo list “financial aid” ?

@breakfeastclub1234567890 Mine doesn’t, but that’s probably because I’ve already submitted my fafsa and css profile to UNC
