UNC Class of 2022 EA Discussion Thread

@watdapuck - google the unc commondataset for sat and gpa stats

I was talking to this girl from my school and she said that she was accepted to Chapel Hill a month or two ago… is this even possible?? She seems like a nice person and idk why she would lie. It’s driving me crazy

Maybe she committed for a sport? @cmoney128

Maybe she is a recruited athlete.

FA packages come around March.

My daughter also got deferred from State Engineering.

So, I suppose the results will be available this Friday, right?

@TheBoringKid thats what were guessing. If we get the email tomorrow then we know

Last year they sent an email the day decisions came out, so if we don’t get an email tomorrow don’t be too quick to think that they aren’t coming out Friday

does anyone think the Census outage that Connect Carolina will be doing correlates at all with decisions? I see where they changed the date for the outage to the 30th now instead of the 26th like it was originally.

@musicandscience @twogirls nope. pretty sure she doesn’t play any sports.

The only students I know of who would be accepted early are recruited athletes. Maybe it’s a different UNC school?

I don’t think the Census outage is related to decisions being released. If you look underneath the Census outage it explains what they are doing. If anything, it is good that the Census outage was pushed back because that could mean that decisions were pushed forward!!! @crg0613

I want to give some of you guys faith who have low scores like me. Scores ddo matter but are not everything, I would like to highlight two OOS applicants accepted last year. One had a 26 ACT with a 3.9 UW and one had a 28 with a 4.0 W (I believe). Have faith in your essays and recs because they consider EVERYTHING, not just the sticker scores you label yourself as!

^ And did those OOS applicants have URM status, legacy status, and/or first-generation college status? Or D-1 athletes? Because those things are considered by UNC-CH as factors in an admissions decision (see Part C7 of the Common Data Set); and they can certainly offset the disadvantage of low standardized test scores and GPA.

For students entering in the fall of 2017… an ACT score of 28 was at the 25th percentile. This suggests to me that students with an ACT of 28 or lower had some kind of hook… legacy, URM, recruited athlete…writing a textbook… something. Although not impossible…unhooked OOS applicants…especially those from overrepresented areas of the country…with relatively low test scores … need to be realistic. Acceptance for these “ low score” students will not be based solely on LORs and ECs… it will be based on something tangible that they have to offer.

That being said… you will never know unless you apply. Taylor- even though your scores are “ low,” … maybe you have something that they are looking for. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I just joined after seeing an important clue that decisions are coming soon! The Connect Carolina home screen just added “Undergraduate admissions decisions are not currently available. This message will be updated when the decisions are released.” In the past, applicants received an email that night explaining how to see their decisions. Normally decisions are released the day after this with the exception of last year when they came out two days after. Good luck everyone!

Here are some excerpts from the UNC 2021 EA discussion:

“Deferred OOS. Soo happy considering I had 24 ACT and 3.1 GPA”

“Accepted OOS! 4.7 GPA and 1175 SAT. Yes, my SAT was low, but I had strong essays and lots of extracurriculars. So if you’re reading this a year from now and are worried about your test scores, remember that they look at other factors as well!!”

“Deferred OOS
ACT: 23
GPA: 3.8
The upward trend throughout my high school career is impressive
Essays: 10/10 I think they were legendary.
Other Decisions: University of Oklahoma (accepted), Washu (rejected ED), UChicago (rejected EA), University of Virginia (deferred EA).
Why I think they are considering me? I have a lot to offer to the campus and I think they know that. Don’t judge me by my test scores because I am one of the most ambitious leaders in my community. I also have a really strong passion for science.”

“I’m still in shock. Accepted OOS 28 ACT 3.8unw/4.6 w but pretty unique EC an strong essays. Future applicants: be passionate and be involved in activities that make a difference in the world and colleges will notice.”

“Deferred OOS!!! 27 ACT with 28 superscore…3.34UW and 3.9 weighted!!! Good essays and good EC’s too!!! Congrats to everyone!”

“Accepted OOS. 26 ACT and 3.5 weighted GPA. No legacy, just an incredible resume and EC’s. I’m sure my Rec’s were good too”

They also just updated the admissions blog with instructions on how to view when they become available, following past tradition.

Take note of the “ incredible resume.” That’s a clue. These applicants had … something… The fact that somebody with a 23 was also deferred EA to UVA implies that this was not a typical applicant.

Good luck… everybody will know soon enough…

Oh my god its actually happening
