I got mine last night as well! What meal plan is given ?
@breakfeastclub1234567890 I’m pretty sure it covers the basics but lets you contribute money if you want a different one. I think it works the same way for laptop grants, because I read that if you’re a Covenant Scholar you are eligible for a laptop grant.
if you are a carolina covenant does your family pay nothing? I confused by the financial aid they sent on connect carolina

@breakfeastclub1234567890 Yes, if you’re a Carolina Covenant Scholar then you don’t pay for loans. I’m not sure about the meal plan but I do know that Covenant Scholar’s get a laptop grant so I assume we’ll get the basic meal plan.
@Carolina6 so families are expected to pay nothing ?
@breakfastclub You would still pay your EFC, which to be a Covenant Scholar is between $0 and $4000. You would also pay $2200, which you will be offered work study to cover that cost. Unlike some need based financial aid, the Covenant Scholar program has no loans.
@carolinadad where does it state that you pay your EFC?
@breakfeastclub1234567890 It states it on the Carolina covenant website. The Covenant is supposed to cover your financial need. If your EFC was 1000 for instance, your need would be the cost of attendance - 1000.
@MaybeUNC2022 So if my EFC was zero then I would be expected to pay nothing?
If your EFC is zero, they would expect you to do work study and pay $2200. That would be all you pay for all the associated costs of attendance.
@carolinadad could you post a link to where it says that in the website? I dont see anything about paying 2200.
@breakfeastclub1234567890 Perhaps you are not aware of the covenant website, so I posted the link below. I also posted the relevant FAQ that explains the aid. The Federal Work Study is currently about $2200, it could vary slightly. They will expect you to contribute something to your education, but will offer you a part-time job to cover that cost.

What types of financial aid will Covenant students receive?
Covenant-eligible students are awarded federal, state, institutional, and/or private grants and scholarships and the amount of Federal Work-Study that can be earned by working approximately 10-12 hours per week in an on-campus job. This combination of grants, scholarships, and Work-Study gives Covenant Scholars the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree at Carolina without having to assume student loans to meet their financial need.
Why are Covenant Scholars awarded Work-Study as a part of their financial aid?
Research has found that students who work a reasonable number of hours while enrolled in college tend to get better grades and are more likely to stay in school than students who don’t work (or who work too many hours). Work-Study also provides excellent work experience and helps students get to know faculty and staff who may become mentors.
If I got deferred from UNC OOS, is it very likely I’m taking the L from even more selective schools?
@anxiouswreck Not necessarily, UNC is quite holistic which means you may come across a school that places more weight on tests, gpa, and other academic factors. I do have a friend that got Into USC and Vanderbilt but was denied UNC OOS. Could also mean the opposite though, but just know UNC has to defer and reject many more qualified students than most due to its emphasis more on EC’s, essays, and recs. I’d still have confidence in your other apps if your academics are pretty stellar, but of course anything can happen with College Admissions
when are we thinking decisions will come out? i was deferred oos ct. is being deferred a good thing? I was the only one not rejected out of 20 girls so I am remaining hopeful!
@ggirl2288 1 out of 20 deferred - yikes - you do have something to be thankful for! Last year 4% of deferrals were accepted, year before that 10%. It all depends on the number of apps etc. You must have some great stats, so even if UNC doesn’t come through hopefully you’ve got another favorite that will. It’s stressful but have faith that you’ll end up exactly where you need to be!
And decisions sometime end of March
@ggirl2288 Best of luck to you! I, too, was the only person deferred at my school – one other person got in (he’s now declined his offer of admission, he’ll be going to Georgia Tech), everyone else got rejected. It’s a bit of a weird feeling, but I’m grateful to even have been deferred, since UNC can be so tricky OOS. Sending you good vibes as decision day approaches!
I just got notified that I am a Covenant Scholar and I am super excited. Congratulations to everyone else who also got the Covenant scholarship.
