@SlimJim005 - The most recent class profile breaks out the SAT ranges for those attending from in-state versus out of state. Not sure how these numbers compare to the accepted student ranges.
Iâm not sure where the stat about Georgetown limiting the number comes from. My sonâs school last year 6 accepted to Georgetown and 11 accepted to UNC. We are out of state.
@tommc1 Thanks very much. I think what she was verbally telling me in a nice way was that if youâre OSS, you really need to be at about 1500 on the SAT or 34 on the ACT to be competitive. The problem with the range is that a lot of OSS applicants might think theyâre in the hunt if they are at or slightly above 1380, but they probably arenât. The lower OSS scorers are more inclined to be recruited athletes or have some other hook.
Does anyone have information on how many students are eventually admitted to the business school? I found some information on the website referencing average college GPA and how many spots are available, but not an acceptance rate.
For sophomores applying in 2018 for K-F, there were something like 700 that applied and around half that got in with average college GPA of 3.6-3.7. There are 4.0 students that did not get in and those with lower GPAâs that did. They are looking for excellent grades and also business related extracurricular activities, especially officer positions and participation in business clubs. Having some experience the summer before you apply your sophomore year, even as an unpaid intern, doing something business related is a plus (think shadowing a family friend who is a trader, accountant, etc). The K-F website does indicate they are expanding the program, but that will be over time.
@HollyGT I believe thereâs a section in the UNC application where you can check at least two programs youâre interested in, should you be admitted. @srabinow2019 The website always states Jan 30, they released the results around 3.00-4.00 PM on the last Friday in January these past two years.
Hey hope everyone isnât losing as much sleep over this as I am, but weâre about two weeks away and the stress is killing me!

Anything to give me some peace is appreciatedâŠeven if you think itâs a no!
I really think youâve gone to the wrong place for peace of mind.
Asking strangers on a forum to give an opinion would/should not give you (or anyone) peace of mind. Think about it. Unless youâre one of the decision makers in the admissions process, you donât know how this will go. No one in this forum has stepped up yet to admit theyâre one of the decision makers in the UNC admissions department.
For example, someone on this forum says youâve got a good chance. Why would that give you peace of mind? It shouldnât for the reason I described above.
If someone says your chances are lower than average, then youâll feel bad for nothing. I wouldnât feel bad if I posted my stats and someone says my chances arenât good. Iâd probably try to make myself feel better by saying something like⊠âWell what does that person know. He/she is just an anonymous poster on a forum. Iâve bled Carolina Blue since I was a zygote on my way to become an embryo.â
Honestly, you know who is a better source? Your GC. Youâre in-state which means your GC has seen hundreds, if not thousands, of students apply from your school to UNC. Your GC would have a better sense of the typical student who has or has not been accepted to UNC. Did your GC say you have a good chance?
BTW, good luck. Only 2 more weeks. Itâll fly by. It really will. :)>-
@SlimJim005 My son with a 34/1490 in-state was deferred, waitlisted, and then accepted last year- his HS was super-competitive! The bar keeps rising every year, so itâs really difficult to predict, especially with OOS. @Mcunn226 - Last two years, they released the results the 4th Friday in January. Good Luck!
@Tuxrd2 Acceptances, if any, off the UNC waitlist are based off of a randomized lottery system and arenât competitive. Thereâs no reason to waste your time writing emails or making a futile attempt to be recognized by the office of admissions should you be waitlisted.
@Essel Your info on your In-State son really helps confirm what I was told. Again, a lot of people are looking at the middle 50% of scores for OSS, and since only 18% of the school is OSS, that range is not really a super large sample. UNC is going to recruit a lot of athletes, many of which wonât be In-State. So, that will bring down the OSS scores.
My call to the AO last summer was worth it b/c she was definitely trying to tell me (in a very nice way) that if youâre OSS and below 34 ACT or below 1500, then there is little chance â unless youâre a recruited athlete or have some other hook. Most public universities will use OSS candidates who arenât athletes to raise their overall test score averages.
OOS student here. I just have a quick question regarding first semester senior year.
At the time I applied, my unweighted GPA was (I believe) at a quite decent standing, a 3.84. However, after finals hit and I got 2 Bâs, 1 B+, and 3 Aâs, my unweighted dropped to a 3.79, which I was quite devastated about when I saw my report card. Does anyone know how seriously UNC takes 7th semester grades, and if that drop will hurt my chances of admission?
If it helps, the 2 classes I got Bâs in are AP Physics 2 and AP Stats, the B+ I got was in AP Lit, and 2 of my Aâs are from AP Comp Sci Principles and iOS App Development (regular class). I intend to major in comp sci.
An answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
@techytechtech Did you apply EA? If so, are you sure that UNC will see the 1st semester grades before they make their decision? I know if you go RD, they will see them, but Iâm not sure theyâll have time between now and the next two weeks.
@SlimJim005 Yes, I applied EA. I believe UNC comes out with their decisions on January 30th or maybe a couple days before, right?
My school said that once the new semester starts (now this semester), they would send mid-year reports to all colleges seniors applied to. Iâm guessing it will arrive long before their release date since my school sent them out near the beginning of January. But once again, Iâm not too sure.
@techytechtech If your other grades are really good, then I would think youâd be fine. A lot of applicants have a heavier load of AP their senior year. As an OSS, it might be more important to have top test scores. Iâm getting the feeling that the top state universities need good scores from OSS students to balance the in-state kids they have to take.
@techytechtech UNC has already made most of its decisions at this point. They donât have time to look at first semester grades for those who applied EA. Precisely why itâs not asked for
