It’s a little folder with your acceptance letter printed on inside cover and information about FA, next steps, and a glossy marketing booklet to encourage you to accept their offer.
Thank you! Congrats, btw
Do we need to submit midyear transcripts if we got in EA?
No, just the final transcript
Financial aid package came in today in Connect Carolina
How is the financial package?
I got mine upon acceptance. Since I’m out of state though the cost is hefty like $40,000 a year
I received the carolina covenant, which take cares of all my financial need which is great
I heard that you can switch state residency in your second year so you’ll only be charged OOS tuition in your first year. I’m not sure how true this is, but you should definitely look into it!
I don’t think that is true. I would love it to be the case though.
In state residency isn’t that easy. North Carolina requires each student to complete a verification process (RDS - Residency Determination Service). The universities no longer determine in-house if a student receives in-state or out-of-state status.
Does anyone know what a University Grant is? Is that renewable?
My son (OOS admitted) got a vague brochure today about yet to be revealed “Special Opportunity”. Did anyone else get this and what does it mean?
@chuckwalla I know that grants do not have to be repayed. It must be a grant offered by the university.
Thanks! I didn’t even know such things exist!
We haven’t been to the mail- but that sounds exciting! Let us know!
@chuckwalla Grants usually are renewed provided the student maintains a certain minimum GPA, usually 3.0, but may vary between universities.
I do not think this is totally correct. Institutional grants are usually need based. If you got one from Carolina, like I did, it is probably related to your financial need. They meet 100% of your need with Federal Aid and Institutional Aid.
The aid you got for the 2021-2022 might not be the same in the following years, since you would have to fill out your FAFSA every year. The good thing is they do not require the CSS Profile for the following years, just the one you have already filled out for 2021-2022.
If the financial situation of your family is stable next year, the grant should be the same.
@ laritara Thanks for correcting my information. You are right when you say that grants are usually need based. I was not aware that FAFSA should be filled.
