I failed to mention that A) we are private and don't rank (class size of almost 100) and B) will complete 3 AP's by the time i graduate including AP Bio which i took junior year (normally taken senior yr, at my school at least). I also took many honors and accel. courses, pretty difficult course load in general...hope this helps you in deciding my chances Thanks, Stephanie

well if you're in, I'm hopefully in. im OOS with a bit higher SAT scores but im black

Parasail- you have a very low GPA, and un-phenomenal SAT scores (for out of state). I don't think that you have a very good chance for admission, since it is very competitive for out of state applicants. Even if you raised your SAT, your GPA would still weigh very negatively on your application. Sorry, I don't think that you can get in.

i partly agree with calidan. you gpa is low, even if it is unweighted, and your SAT is decent, but the avg. SAT at UNC is 1280, so yours is only 30pts higher. out of state, it is very difficult to get in, but i still think you have a shot.

i have similar stats to yours, SAT & gpa a bit higher, so we are in the same boat. if you can, raise your gpa, and send them your quarter grades...that should help..otherwise, just hope a thick packet comes in the mail! I applied EA also, and i hope i get in! good luck!

I am sorry but honestly I think your chances are slim esp. since you are a female and your GPA is lower than what they like to see for out of staters. Also your SAT is too low for out of state. They take only 17% from out of state. And you have to have outstanding academics and a really good hook. My daughter got waitlisted there so we know the score. She was told she would definately have gotten in if her SAT was higher (it was higher than yours though) and she did have a weighted 4.6 GPA 3.97 unweighted and tons of community service and recs. But regardless she ended up waitlisted. You never know..but my guess is not favorable..so I think you should also examine other options. Good luck though!

angs-what was your D's SAT score? also, did she take any SAT IIs?

another question: Does UNC look at geographical residence? Or do they not care about that?

what are my friends chances of gettin into UNC:
97.5 GPA
1370 SAT
3 Varsity Sports- Captain of Lacrosse Team
Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do
740 Math 2C
730 Global
630 Writing
660 Chemistry
5 AP Psych
4 AP US
-Spanish Club/ Honor Society
-Math Team/ Honor Society
-National Honor Society
-High Honor Roll (9-12)
- Rensselaer Medal!!!!!
No legacy
OUT OF STATE
WHITE BOY

She did not take the SAT II's because none of the schools required it. She was a national honor scholar for academics and for art.. She also had a ton of community service etc.
She was really upset when she was deferred..but it worked out great! She is very happy at UMD.
Its definately harder for an out of state girl to get in.
