<p>Can’t say I find it surprising. The logic of the relationship between big-time sports programs and the academic mission of college has always been tenuous at best. There is pressure to do anything to win, as they did at UNC. Players are slowly winning the right to get paid. At some point we might end up asking ourselves just why colleges ought to be in the sport business any more than they should be in the movie or music business. </p>

<p>The financial arm (endowment, licensing etc) of many colleges already are investing and starting many businesses as are profs. I’d bet some invest in film and music. </p>
