With VaTech meeting Boston College in the ACC football championship game for the second year in a row, I was wondering if the long-time ACC schools' fans are sorry they allowed the conference to expand twice in recent decades? First there were FSU and GaTech, then BC, Miami, and VaTech. These schools seem to dominate ACC football. It's sort of like being nice and inviting some guys to a frat party, and they end up getting all the girls.

GT and FSU aren't as recent as people make them out to be...I believe GT joined the ACC in the '70's and FSU in 1991...so as a current student I don't remember the ACC without GT or FSU. I don't mind the expansion personally. It's not like it's going to change anytime soon. UNC is probably better in football because of it (having to play traditional football powers such as VT does that to you), although now we're seeing a lower percentage of teams in the NCAA tourney (the ACC usually sends 4 or 5, and they still do, but now it's 4-5/12 instead of 4-5/9).

Whatever.

I think that's a pretty silly argument considering the ACC is still a joke conference compared to a conference like the SEC. It's made us a better football program, if anything, by allowing us to play traditional powerhouse football schools.

Honestly, the old ACC (8 team ACC) was always a basketball conference...if a team like UNC has a good football season it's like "Cool", but a good basketball season is always expected at UNC. And we love our basketball team.
