Hey guys, I am kind of worried about getting into UNC. I am making this thread because I havent really found any chance thread like this one. :P

I have a 4.6 and my ec's are good. I have taken 13 AP's and only 3 Academic. All the others are Honors. I really slacked off my freshmen and sophomore year and got 5 C's and 5 A's, but i had taken 5 AP's my sophomore year. My junior year I got one B and the rest were A's.

GPA: 3.35 (I know really low but with upward trend: 9th and 10th: 2.9 -->3.8 Junior year)
Weighted Gpa: 4.6
ACT: 34 Writing: 10

VP Speech and Debate( Sophomore )and President (Junior and Senior Year). I was on the tennis team all four years and Key club all four years. Also I competed Nationally for DECA.

Awards: Highest PVS Award for volunteering. NMF

Course Rigor : High(took 15 AP's)

Internship with a small company which makes Iphone Apps. (1 summer)

Also, I have an older brother who is currently studying at UNC. Will that play a role in my application? I was wondering if my freshmen and sophomore year grades would reflect badly even though i fixed my grades my junior year.

I think you have a very good chance, especially with that ACT score. Apparently UNC takes a holistic approach with apps, and you have the EC’s to make that work. It helps that you’re in-state! UNC is wicked hard for out-of-staters. Anyways, I say your chances look good.

In part, I think the fact that you had taken 5 APs by soph. year outweighs the grades you got in them; I mean, many top students have only taken 1 or 2 APs by there Sophomore year. Of course, however, you could have at least pulled through with Bs. Your ACT is is very good, and your ECs aren’t bad. I think you have a good chance: match.

Your ACT score is awesome. I’d say you have a great chance at UNC. By the way, I live in NC as well, and competed in nationals at DECA this year too! You’re the first NC DECA kid I’ve seen on here. :)

Thanks guys! I love all the positive comments. COuld you chance me on these ones too, it would really help me get my head straight for my C’s :/.

Thanks in advance!

CMU Tepper (EDII)
NYU Stern
Michican Ross
CMU Tepper

You ACT score is great, but ECs are a bit lacking. I would suggest getting more involved in some business-related activities while you have time, and definitely emphasize your internship.

CMU ED- Low reach
NYU Stern- Reach. From what I understand, it’s quite a bit harder to get into Stern than any other division-- I think your GPA is going to hurt your chances there.
Michigan- High match

NYU Stern is a high reach, GPA and (lack of) ECs won’t get you in despite upward trend and strong ACT. You could get into NYU CAS and try to transfer to Stern if that’s a goal you have.

Michigan Ross may either be a high match or low reach. I’d say 40-60% chance.

No familiar with CMU Tepper but if you apply ED you probably have a good chance.
