I used it to find an estimate for my net price but it was lower than I expected. how accurate is it? Like I was wondering, did UNC do the calculator "nice" to encourage people to apply?
I got in but haven't received my aid package yet. I'm trying to get even a broad estimate to how much I'll have to pay.

Well keep in mind… the amount you will have to pay will probably be more because the fin aid package incldues loans (about 35%)… for example, UNC said my family would have to pay about $4000 but I have also been given $7500 in loans, which I’m not going to take…

are you instate or out of state? and how much were you offered as grants?

instate.

offered about 5800 in grants
2700 in work study

I thought UNC usually offered a good finaid. The work-study program means your parents don’t make that much money. so, why so little grants? I’m oos, so that means roughly 40,000. I’m very worried

UNC does offer good aid, from what I’ve heard… But I don’t really know why I was given so little in grants. My loans were $7500, but I declined them so I have to pay $12k out of pocket/year. My other instate friends are going for free (included with scholarships and such) to UNC though.

I’m not really sure for OOS students though. I’m guessing you will get a lot in loans.

As an OOS parent I believe they were very generous. They delivered exactly what they promised. Family contribution is almost exact to our EFC and about 35% of need was made up of work study and loan. The remainder was given as a grant. They were the most generous school compared to our other offers.
