hey everyone. I got into both schools and I know they are both great. But I was wondering if anyone could help me decide between the two.

I got waitlisted at UVa which is my top choice and I have decided that I am going to stay on it and hope to get in. But I also realize that the chances are slim and to get excited about another school. I am looking for a combination of a good school and a good time. So if anyone has any input thatd be great. just respond to this or PM me.

I visited both. liked UNC’s campus better and could live on Franklin Street forever. But I do like the fact G-town is right in DC. Im undecided but thinking of law school. and Im from New Jersey

I’m from LI and I absolutely love it here at UNC. One of my best friends is at Georgetown and pretty much hates it because (his words, not mine) “people are incredibly stuck up.” I’ve never encountered that problem here.

One of my roommates for next year actually transferred here from Georgetown. She said the people there were uptight and never had any fun. I don’t know how true that is, but she’s having a great time now at Carolina.

I really wanted to go to school in DC but ended up really disliking Georgetown’s campus, and also have heard that going there is super duper expensive.

I’d put the academics on par with each other, so really I’d say it should come down to a financial/feeling decision. You’ve got a hard choice in front of you, but luckily you’ve got two excellent schools to choose from!

You will encounter a lot of very wealthy prep school kids at Georgetown, many of whom are legacies. This could lead to the stuck up attitudes that some others have mentioned but how you will perceive it and fit in also all depends on your background as well which you haven’t mentioned.

The overall vibe at GT is very different not only because of the urban location but also the diversity (or lack of) of the student body. UNC is far more laid back, the students there aren’t out to impress anybody with their money or brains (and there is plenty of both at UNC, its just more stealthy) and the academic environment is less competitive and far more cooperative than you’ll find at many other schools. Please don’t interpret that to mean that UNC is not a challenging school academically, it’s just not a cut throat, uber competitive environment.

They are both fine schools and you have excellent choices. DC has its pluses and minuses. because Chapel Hill and UNC are so intertwined and interdependent there is real feeling of community there. Georgetown is one of several schools in DC, is located in a very affluent area and derives its identity from the surrounding area. UNC sets the identity for Chapel Hill.

The only real reason I see that you might choose GU over UNC is if you were dead-set on going into foreign service or something, since that doesn’t seem to be the case I’d say UNC is a better choice. While GU is more academically prestigious, it’s still pretty close. I’ve also heard from many people that the students there are much more uptight and smarmy, and VERY pre-professional, while it’s only anecdotal evidence there is a BIG difference between the semi-elite private school vibe and the more laid back southern feel at UNC.

Visit both though, you might fall in love with GU or something.
