UNC or NC State?

I just got accepted to ncsu as a transfer student for civil engineering, and also got accepted to unc chapel hill for biomedical engineering. I am leaning more towards unc, but I am still not sure. I know they have a joint program with ncsu for biomed. I am just scared bc biomed is a lot harder than civil, I would have to move out to go to unc which I’m kinda nervous about, and lastly bc I thought I had no chance to get into unc so I had just planned to attend nc state with my bf. I am also scared of regretting either decision. I would appreciate any advice!

Have you toured both schools? Is one more affordable?

biomedical engineering is very different than civil. The stereotype is that BME is a pre med major with lots of gunners. the reputation of CE is toward the other end of the spectrum (and building “roads and commodes”). UNC does not offer other engineering majors like NCSU does so that is very different. UNC BME tries to make people leave the major by having strong weeder courses (e.g. statics) They are such different majors, the safest route would be go NCSU and assuming you still have to CODA in to your major (all traditional NCSU students have to); if you kick ass with your math, physics, and chemistry prereqs you can change your major. (which are almost identical requirements for all COE majors). You can do BME at NCSU but can’t do civil, or industrial, or nuclear, or mechanical, etc… at UNC.

BME is the highest GPA by major at NCSU at 3.8 , civil is one of the lowest at 3.4

NCSU on the page I provided is very transparent you can look at bell curve grade distributions by major of anticipated at entry and what the applicants/accepted looked like after CODA.

I have known someone who did BME at UNC took extra physics and math classes and went to grad school at an Ivy for mechanical engineering so you can diversify a BME major at UNC to make it more like a similar degree (e.g. Industrial/systems (take extra stat classes) or Mechanical (take extra physics)…

Hey there. If you don’t mind me asking, but what was your transfer GPA? I am also majoring in civil engineering. If you don’t mind me asking, what you think my chances are of getting into NCSU. Im at a 3.5 but It might go down lower this semester.
